Hellcat: 20K Rounds & Counting!

I change my recoil springs every 5,000 rounds, I am referring to the complete recoils assembly, now on the the plain spring, same amount of rounds or if the spring is 2-3 coils shorter then a new one, which ever comes first.

That's nuts! I've got guns with literally 50k rounds or more through them. Never needed to change a spring.

For the record, I kept the box tops from the 1000 primer boxes. When we moved 2 years ago I counted them. There were over 900. I've shot a LOT. Never had to change a recoil spring. 5k rounds is nothing.

I shoot 20,000 to 40,000 rounds a year. Change springs annually whether needed or not.

I was referring to 1911's, I guess you don't know too much about them if you don't change the spring at that interval, unless you like battering your gun. Now if you use the flat recoil springs for the 1911, yea, you can go longer before changing them. I have seen many 1911's with battered frame over the past 40+ years of shooting them.

Never any issues, either...change my 1911 out every 4K rounds or so.

Nice. Wish I could keep a gun for 4k rounds before getting bored with it. I think my record is a bit over 2k - DW Guardian in ,38S. But it’s gone now too .

Same here, I very much want the SA XDM-Elite 9mm. Solid looking handgun, still concealable but with a 20-round mag...

I have grown into the XDM lineup. I have the XDM-9, XDM elite 9, XDM 40, XDM elite 10MM, and the XDM precision in 10MM.

When I attended the Springfield Armory 1911 Armorers Course, it was recommended that you change the recoil spring at 5000-7000 rounds, change the firing pin spring when you change the recoil spring, and the main spring at 20,000. The SIG and Glock Armorers courses similarly recommended changing the recoil spring at 5,000 rounds, so I just follow that standard with all my semi auto pistols. Those courses have duty pistols in mind so expect them to be conservative, if it is a range gun not a carry gun and you are comfortable with it, just shoot till something breaks.
