I consider wear and tear to be a badge of honor. My firearm is a tool. Tools are meant to be used. I understand we want to keep our kit looking great, but it's better to wear it out than let it rot (i.e. safe queen).

I guess there are a couple of things you can do to minimize wear. While my hybrid holsters are a little more comfortable, I tend to carry kydex for the rigidity. I think the soft leather lets the holster crush the handgun more when drawing. The full kydex less so. All of my carry kydex gets muzzle pads and DCC clips for comfort and stability. A nice muzzle pad will not only improve comfort, it will also let your gun print less, holding the grip closer to your body.

I've never used it but there are also holster lube products that are supposed to allow easier/faster draw and cut down on wear.

@Ernie1972, one more quick little thing. I suppose you could go with an all-leather holster. It might be a little easier on the gun's finish. I have one of those that all my 4" pistols fit. But I don't use it much. Even though it is quite comfortable, the draw is a little slower and rehholstering is much less convenient because the holster mouth closes so easily. But that holster works best in certain situations.

As in everything, train with the gear you have. Improve your gear if necessary. Practice all the time. Develop your muscle memory. Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious and you know all this already. We're all at different levels here and I just want to cover all the bases. ;)

I have both a Hellcat FDE and Pro (Blk). The Pro really hasn't shown any noticeable wear, whereas my FDE has a lot of holster wear. The black finish is Melonite (a nitride) and the FDE is Cerakote. While I think Cerakote is a good finish it's not as durable as a nitride treatment. And I agree that holster wear is just what it is for an EDC.
