Help! Field strip

I did wonder about that myself. I’m sure Springfield will shout Ridiculous about that, but stranger things have happened.
otherwise, what would be the reason for the guide rod to be so darned tight?

to keep it from loosening while one shoots.

Woohoo just took way more elbow grease than expected.
if possible? contact S/A and ask if they have a torque spec for that guide rod.

and if they do, then if you are really that good with a feel for it, torque it.

otherwise, buy a torque wrench for small items, screws/etc, most likely an "inch pound" torque wrench you can get at Lowe's (Craftsman) or Home Depot (Huskey) then you'll need a allen socket as well.

When you crank it back there is very little give. It’s like a hard stop. I stripped mine down and the rod had pretty much gone back to the way it was the first time I unscrewed it - very tight.
