Help Goose pick an XD

Since I've been on a Smith kick lately, it's time to change things up! I'd really like to get a SA XD, but I'm not sure if I should go for the traditional XD9 or the Mod 3. Not really sure on the differences, trying to do my research and watch videos and such but where better to get the real info on these models than right here?

I've had an XD40 in the past (like WAY in the past... early 2ks) and had to sell it. But I loved that gun! It was great and rock solid. I trust SA every bit as much as I trust Smith. What intrigues me in the Mod 3. What's the big difference? They're about the same on price (relatively speaking).

I'd love to, but 10mm is just about non-existent in my state. When it does make a rare appearance, it's RIDICULOUSLY expensive.

Those don't exist in my state, sadly. Not really, anyway. There are a few, but they have a VERY limited offering. Best anyone can hope for around here is to run into someone at the range that owns a model you want to buy, and ask to borrow it for a few shots.

I voted for the Mod 3, basically because if I’m going to buy a gun between two that are very similar I’d want the version with the most updated options.

Hi,

I have both. The XD9 4" Service pistol was my first love, my first carry. It's fine unit. I still take it to the range or to class once in a while. It spends most of its time on the nightstand now.

The updated Mod.3 has several features that are true improvements. I like the new grip. The OR cut is standard. The trigger is better. I've installed an optic and once I'm really comfortable drawing and aiming it in a self-defence situation, it will have a permanent place in my carry rotation. Plus, for the price you can't beat it.

Oops. While I was writing this I saw your post about the Mod.3 not being included on your state's "approved" list. Sorry. That kinda sucks.

I inherited a XDM 3.8 9mm. I like everything about it except it gets heavy carrying all day. It’s a older one with 19 round mags.
