Hiring non citizens to be LEOs

I have mixed feelings on this topic. Because every grain in my body opposes any part of the liberal agenda nowadays, my instinctual reaction is no way in hell! But that response then makes me as bad as the people I disagree with. I also should mention although I generally lean towards conservatism, I consider myself to be an equal opportunity offender. I am very black and white. Very right or wrong without a gray area. If a politician does something I disagree with, I will call it out regardless of party. If a politician does something I agree with, I will praise the action regardless of party. Remove the name and party and evaluate the action. That being said, I think if the law enforcement agencies applied the same principles of the US Military, a non citizen should be able to serve as a law enforcement officer. I think this should also afford the person an expedited path to naturalization. NOT abridged, merely expedited to include all of the requirements without the lengthy timeline. I once had an employee that became a naturalized citizen. The process took roughly 10 years and he knew US History better than I did once he completed the required studies. He was a remarkable contributor at work and truly loved our country. I suppose the difficult task would be to sort out those worthy of the opportunity from those that should simply be shipped back to where they came from.

If you are not a citizen, you dont have rights to enforce the laws you ignored to come here illegally
The article is addressing folks here legally on a
Federal work permit. No different than non US Citizens that are members of the Military.

That said I’m not so much sold on either idea. I believe a Somali national in Minnesota was convicted of murder for shootjng an Australian born US Citizen to death a few years ago.

Noor was unsuited to police work.
In my opinion he panicked in a surprise encounter with a cpmplainant. Recruitment, selection, training, and discipline determine the quality of police service and their process was flawed. I think he was a DEI hire. The police chief was fired after this and another shooting by the PD. The city settled a lawsuit by the family for $20 million.

If I were a chief today I would not hire a non-citizen. Non-citizens who serve in our military have a path to citizenship. My response to a non-citizen applying to a police job today would be, go get naturalized and then we'll talk.

Mohamed Noor was a US Citizen for over a decade before he shot Justine Damond.

Do, like, 10 seconds of research before spewing ignorance next time.

Just to be a contrarian, having some of the criminals treated with the attitude of less "enlightened" officers, acting like they saw the police from back home..... :devilish: Surprise!
NO! Police = citizen only thank you. Then maybe that's another "job Americans won't do"

Ok maybe not the best example, however the post was getting away from the topic which was non U.S. citizens on a federal work permit.

The point I was attempting to make even folks on federal work permits have made big opposes, just like US born in police work have. Not sure what the answer is short of going back to the old school ways where folks actually washed out of academy’s and Field Training programs their probation year!

Because being a citizen automatically makes you more trustworthy? That doesn’t make sense

Similar to military service being a faster path to citizenship is a compelling line of thought.

But can see, even in the military path, challenges verifying the individuals background ie criminal record etc so maybe not a good idea

Dunno, that’s a tough one.

I have known a few people going thru the process who were more passionate, and knowledgeable than any born here citizen. I know they would make better officers than many I have met.

Should they be hired, perhaps not, but I have met some I trust more than most citizens I know and meet.
Immigrant doctors are trusted with the lives of us and our families. Lawyers and financial advisors with our rights and finances. Is law enforcement where line is drawn?

I don’t know the answer, as said above, it’s an interesting topic.

Legal is legal
If you are here to join our society, then do it legally and become an officer

Bad idea, so hell no. Like giving the WHO (ccp) authority over Americans in the next planned-demic. Stupid ideas come from stupid people.

Make American citizenship mandatory for any position of authority over Americans. Under the (D) regimes we became to liberal giving away American rights to noncitizens. Someday it will come back to bite us in our most vulnerable places.
