What is your preferred home defense weapon that you keep nearby for this purpose.

I keep a 10in SBR AR in .300blk suppressed with a pressure switch light mounted by my bedside in the event that something goes bump in the night then I can bump back quietly...

I truly feel the multiple dogs going ballistic ward off intruders. Hounds bark at the slightest noises outside.
Element of surpise is gone for a perp and I think that is something they want to have an advantage on.
If they do enter, pistols/shotgun await. Even my adult kids can handle firearms proficient and have access . It will not be easy for them

While I have a 45 close by and wife had a K frame alone with another item for anyone coming in uninvited.

What gets overlooked and I recommend for anyone wanting a king arm (it really shines for those that are not into training)
Is a Ruger 10/22 with CCI solids. (Any 22 really but Rugers are pretty good)

They generally are easy for someone to point and the 16-20” barrel gives the 22lr some great velocity. The solids
Flattens out and get to vitals (they don’t bounce around like the farmers takes say and that’s coming from a Trama surgeon that teaches Tactical Anatomy) and the majority of good torso hits with a 22 LR from a rifle tend to be fatal.
