It was written for women by a woman so naturally it's long winded.A little drawn out but good information.
Absolutely on the geese. There is a fenced in area across the street where the lady who owned it raised geese for the last 25 years. The flood of ‘17 took it out. We sure miss those geese. Anyone walking down the street or anywhere close by we knew it. Got about 40 cameras up and down the street now. I can see you long before you get near my house. Rather have the geese. My thoughts as a female: when I was a lil girl, we did not lock our doors except when we went on vacation.
I have as a adult lived through my first disaster, hurricane Andrew. Everything went down and night, the stars so bright and so quiet except for the bugs. Unless you live in the boonies or camping. There was no law as you were on your own 100%. The law of the gun. It was a bit unusual but not only you armed but everywhere you went they were as well. The biggest thing is no one caused any issues with others as it was the norm.
What I saw was enlightening. I saw three types of people, the good people it brought out the good, the bad people it sure brought out the savage in them as no law to help and last the huge majority of people who were taken out of their comfort zone box and did absolutely nothing as they were parallelized and in shock.
Amazing they were like sheep and made it a point to hang around those who were strong that adapted to the environment and were armed. "I will not be a victim, mentality".
The article was more of common sense of things you can do in various situations but also applies to all people. WE all know "Common sense ain't so common". Even more so these days, how many times you see people's face stuck in a cell phone or texting and oblivious to anything in their environment.
Everything starts with being alert as head on a swivel everywhere you go, think what can you do to increase your safety and do it.
The Romans used Geese why, they are the best guards and make lots of noise when startled.
If you live where you can have them the care is easy as they enjoy natural food, including insects, grass, finely chopped fruit, and vegetable peels. Rodents are not off-limits for geese. Although adults do not actively hunt mice and rats, they will eat them if they come across them. Geese are omnivores and will eat small animals such as mice or other meat if they are available.
The most difficult part is coaching people to get out of their comfort zone box so they too can be safer.
Yes they are awesome guard alerts.Thank you for chiming in, Lexie. It is good to get a woman’s perspective, especially an article directed at women. One of my aunts used to have Guinea fowl because they would alert her to visitors.
Good read. Things to think about for everyone.Decent article written by and geared towards women, but equally informative for men.

Geese that are bonded to their care givers can be formidable guard animalsAbsolutely on the geese. I've read reports of people who live in High Rise apartments like on the 10th floor getting robbed. This might sound crazy but at least at night all your windows, regardless of what floor you're on, should be locked.
If you have a second or even a third story balcony the door should be locked.

I used to live in these apartments on the third floor (other side of the building). I never left my windows or my balcony door locked, I didn't think I needed to I lived on the third floor.
Then one day I locked my keys inside of my apartment and one of my neighbors offered to help, I watched him climb up the side of that building go over my balcony and walk into my sliding glass door and bring the keys down.
I never left that window open again.
