How Do I Set Up an AR-15 for Home Defense?

I know a lot of folks love ‘em but I’m not a fan for SD. In a self defense scenario things are about as bad as they can get, and you need the problem resolved “right now’. If I can get to a long gun it’s going to pack a LOT more punch per round than a 5.56-12bore Berretta for me. YMMV

Semantics, just giving an example of the gun store cowboy. Let's say you have your AR sitting there with 30 rounds of custom loaded fragmentation bullets, light mounted, laser on, forward grip the DA is going to CRUCIFY you in court if you have to shoot a free booter in your house. Doesn't matter if you're in the right, you were WAITING for the opportunity to waste someone, at least in the eyes of the court.

Maybe in your state. Most places if someone breaks in your house it’s reasonable to assume they intend to harm you and you’re justified in using deadly force.

Waiting, in your own house, for the opportunity to waste someone? 😂

When you live in a Communist ran state you fear government.
 
My first thought would normally lean toward a pistol in for defense for our little house.

But I believe our first line of defense has always been our German Shepherds. They'll give me enough time to at least add a shotgun (the 20guage is loaded) to the pistol. The AR right now is empty and in the safe. And truth be told, our current dog is so friendly I'd need a gun to defend HER if anyone actually got in the house.

Now, when I live in the country, I probably need to buy another AR for home defense and set it up for a go-to. . But right now, we're surrounded by houses
 
Risk v reward. I will take 30 rounds of 5.56 and neutralize the threat or threats to my family and myself as an acceptable option.
Fight or flight is a major decision, my decision is bust that ass fast and hard.
I am ready to face what ever shakes out from that decision.
