I've experienced bullet setback on a defensive round that I pulled out of the mag a few times to swap ammo type.

From what I understand it was an issue with .40, but is mostly a non issue with anything else. Though I too admit to checking carry ammo for setback and avoiding repeatedly chambering the same round.

This happened to me with my G19 and Hornady Critical Defense. I use the same ammo in all my carry guns and it never happened with my Hellcat Pro or 365xl. Maybe it was a bad round or batch of bullets. Regardless now I just take off the holster and put it in the safe and it stays loaded, less chance of having an issue the less you play around with it.

Yeah I never unload my carry guns except to to train or go to the range. And then I just pull the mag out and set it in the safe along with the 1 from the pipe.
