I think very few of us would be likely to declare the revolver “dead.” In fact, I believe most of us find them to be serious tools still eminently suitable in 2024 for punching paper or for defensive use — even those made more than a half-century ago!

good article, another I look for is the ejector issues - when you push it in to eject the spent casings, does it go back nicely or does it hang? A few I have seen is they don't move - you have to manually push the rod back in.....hmmm

I’m working on a deal right now for a Smith .44 mag. Looks like at least an 8. May be a model 29. It’s a guy I know. He’s thinking about a price.

Another thing to look for is a bent yoke. Slamming the cylinder, like on TV, can damage the yoke. A long time ago I had a rod for checking this. You can also cock the hammer just enough to freely spin the cylinder. If the cylinder doesn't freely spin the yoke may be bent.

Another thing especially on older K-frame S&W’s, check the forcing cone, heavy magnum loads would cause them to crack, even on S&W .38’s if shot a lot with +p and also check for bulged cylinders
