I Live In Another America, and it's Good.

I'm so happy I moved here two years ago. The difference is all around me. Something as simple as listening to our one radio station (AM) in my truck today is a huge indicator. They play the National Anthem at noon each day. Most music is from the 40's to the 80's and largely country, but some great oldie rock too. Cattle and crop prices are broadcasted each day. People from the area call in items they have for sale, and the station advertises them free of charge, including all types of weapons, including scary black ARs. Yes, and Paul Harvey gives the rest of the story as well.
In town, most all stores close shop on Sunday. Every day at noon, I can hear the town's siren go off. Church bells on Sunday. People look you in the eye, smile, say thank you, and open doors for others. Store clerks begin calling customers by their first name after getting to know them. I've never seen so many yards, homes, ranches and farms displaying the Stars and Stripes. And there's so much more to list that's great about going back in time in my town of 5K people.

Oh, and they love their guns here. :)

I'm the same. Illinois for 25 years not counting the Army. Escaped North and been happy ever since. Guy working at ACE hardware called me over today, first name basis, to show me a .22 Magnum revolver that you could hide in your hand. Wasn't trying to sell it to me, just wanted to talk about it. At Restaurant's, same deal. Coffee for me, Tea for my Wife. Then just to chat for a while. Different life style. It would drive City dwellers to distraction but we love it. Back yard:

My oh my…..sign me up! Sounds like where I grew up in the late 1950’s in a small town in northwestern Pennsylvania. Unfortunately that place only lives in my dreams and memories.
For those who are still fortunate to still have that way of life, I tip my hat to you.

I love small towns. Grew up in one, and after years of moving for work settled on my farm outside a town oof 700 folks (20 miles from BG). Guy that runs the hardware store and the guy that runs the gun shop are friends, as is the lady who runs the restaurant. Love it.

i knew it....!!

you type like an Idahoan..!!!

been there several times during my driving years... Boise, Pocatello, to name at least 2 of several places in Idaho.

i can't recall what i delivered/picked up there.

i just know, it was never any 'taters.

but too far north for me come winter time, glad i never had to go during the winters.
I've got big time respect for truckers. That job can pay well, but it takes some hard bark to do it. Like you said, Winter driving over the passes in the West is nuts. Chaining up, then removing them in that miserable weather...no danka.

I live in NW PA and have my whole life. Definitely not like that now.

Maybe some of the real small towns in Erie County are like that, but, I doubt it

I actually live and work within the limits of the City of Erie....definitely ain't like that here
