Idaho now accepting volunteers for firing squad of death row inmates

Idaho is now taking volunteers to be on the firing squad for death row executions. Volunteers must have 3 years POST (Police Officer) training and cannot be related to the victim

Dealing with the training realm at academy’s I’m not sure if the POST certified thing inspires confidence…….minimum standards gets them stamped at firearms

But I have zero to do or say with what Idaho does

I suspect that the thought of being assigned or being the one to assign officers was an issue; so taking volunteers must have seemed like a solution.

Now the question (s) is will there be a $$$ bonus AND will there identities be protected. Im trying to remember from the US Army's manual (yes they have/had a manual for executions); but I seem to recall the rounds handed out included one BLANK and given to the shooters so that even they wouldnt "know" or could at least deny knowing if they fired a LIVE round.

For what its worth the US ARMY manual included what music the band should play. Before the execution, the band was instructed to play a somber tune AND following the event the band was to play a "lively" tune, so as to encourage the witnesses and participants to "have a good day..."

Per the article, pick any execution method and it will always be controversial, which is a code word for the press meaning they don't like whatever the subject is. Next door in Washington State the death penalty has been abolished, but in the day, it was death by hanging until lethal injection came along. However, the inmate could request hanging as an option.

I can tell you the Execution protocol withjn the Federal BOP the ones that administer the kethal injections are medical doctors, there are 3 of them and they are all BOP staff. Like the old firing squad where some fire blanks I LE one of the 3 Doctors inject the chemicals, 2 of them three the tubs go int a bucket under the gurney.

They have what they call Execution Protocol teams and none of the staff inside the execution chamber are from USP/FCC Terre Haute or have had any professional interaction with death row inmates.
They are all TDY for the operation.

That’s about as much detail I will disclose publicly but I suspect the firing squads would be the same.

I don't have any inside information, but l suspect that was their way of saying " At Least 3 yr experience as a LEO " .

10 yards with a rifle doesn’t require advanced marksmanship.

Well I have seen one miss a full size silhouette at 7 yards with a round of 12 GA 00 buck as in the only hole was from the wad. And this was way before Federal Flight control was a thing

I have been wanting to move to Idaho, anyway. Like, really, I have.
I love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, but, obviously, I can't stand Washington or Oregon
Idaho is still very conservative.
Now, this is icing on the cake
I wonder if my time in law enforcement in PA would transfer?

I don't understand why society and politicos have such difficulty dealing with Capital Punishment. Idaho is now going to firing squads after a botched injection. I have two thoughts on the subject. I personally don't believe it is a deterrent because people have always killed people. If you still believe it is a deterrent then obviously it did not deter this individual who apparently had accepted the outcome of their action. For my second thought I am of the belief, it is simply the right thing to do. The state (their choice of method) just simply needs to execute and notify someone to pick up or dispose of the body. I don't need to know who, how, or when someone is executed in my state but only they are doing their job. EOY report #### executions completed. Our lifelong Vet has been able to send our precious pets on to peaceful paradise when needed, just saying.

For what its worth Gary Gilmore was executed in UTAH in 1977, He requested death by firing squad. His last words were "Lets Do It"

Then Saturday Night Live did a skit of a Christmas song parody of "Lets kill Gary Gilmore for Christmas"

Here is my thoughts from working jnsode the Federal Bureau of Prisons specifically at USP Terre Haute and delt with several death row inmates. As well as general population high security inmates.

Is it a deterrent????? Probably not as much as it should be however inmates (the violent ones anyway) don’t think like we do!

However I am for the death penalty. However it’s the 20 plus year legal process that’s the bigger issue (other than when we Did McVigh, Garza and Hines the first 3 Gederal executions in 2001 and 2003 after they started them back) they were less than and right at 10 years from the crime (McViegh was 6) I’d say 5 years is the right time for any appeal as we all know the Government can get it wrong sometimes.

That said as far as if it’s a detent or not well they won’t kill again. There is a false assumption that all is well once a criminal goes to prison. The problem very few stop being criminals, they just murder rape try to run dope and steal inside prison while some say assaults and murder inside is a “disrespect” the disrespect is because someone else got assaulted or stole from without being sanctioned

As far as the kill again one of our biggest PITA legal Eagle inmates on death row had kine 3 dates kept getting a stay, genius henios inmate from Oklahoma. (Was doing a 1,200 year state sentence but was moved to the Feds because he was intimidating victims) killed a cell mate in SHU got the Death Penalty Gets commuted to life finally
He gets shipped to USP Tucson everyone they delt woth him knew matter if time. He made it less than a year in general pop and had another body and in typical his fasion complained and wanted to come back to death row at Terre Haute. He never made it finally passed from diabetes and is in a much warmer place than Tucson now.

So my thoughts I still believe some need executed, firing squad is not a bad way and quick. They need to donut in 5 years or less

Another thjng as far as deterrent people don’t get punched in the mouth like they use to for saying the wrong vile stuff these days and it shows. but back when they knew they crossed a line it would happen and kept most in check! Not all but you needed a couple to get punched to re validate the message. Most timely execution will do that, but hih will have some just ain’t gonna learn

3 part question
Probably would count as a Leteral.instead of having to do full academy.

Might , but probably , your previous experience make you a desirable hire .

But your Pennsylvania years of service won't count towards an Idaho Retirement. So all depends on your age / years of service / minimum full Retirement age @ current gig .
