Illinois Wants Gun Makers to Pay the Costs of the Crime Its Dysfunctional Criminal Justice System Enables

House Bill 3320, the so-called Responsibility in Firearm Legislation (RIFL) Act, would establish a state licensing scheme for firearm manufacturers and tie licensing fees to costs Illinois state government attributes to firearm injuries and deaths. The Senate companion bill is Senate Bill 2279. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has, of course, voiced his support for the effort.

Neither bill has passed its chamber, yet. HB 3320 was re-referred to the House Rules Committee on March 27 after substantial amendments were proposed earlier that month. SB 2279 was re-referred to the Senate Assignments Committee on May 22. The legislation, however, has attracted significant Democrat cosponsorship in both chambers, keeping alive a proposal that would fundamentally change the cost of lawful firearm commerce in Illinois.

Making Lawful Manufacturers Pay for Crimes

The premise behind the RIFL Act is straightforward: make lawful and regulated firearm manufacturers pay costs Illinois associates with the criminal misuse of firearms.

Hi,

I believe this would make for safer communnities:

Legislation that would fine and/or incarcerate District Attorneys that fail to file charges against a violent perpetrator who, upon release, commit further acts of violence or mayhem upon the public.

Legislation that would fine and/or incarcerate Judges who release violent perpetrators without bail, dismiss charges with "time served", etc, should those perpetrators commit further acts of violence or mayhem upon the public.

People in the judicial system making all these bad decisions
are not being held responsible.

Thank you for your indulgence,

a much better solution to me at least is, have ALL judges run for the bench, rather than be appointed for life.

once appointed, they can slack off, and "pay off" those favors, they owe those, who helped get them that lifetime job.

and i mean ALL judges in the land......

I favor a system of term limits for everything!

Two terms then go back to work in a job to support you and your family. No second election to another office, no pension, no life long health insurance, and your pay is equal to the median salary of the people in your district. They represent the people, they should be of the people.

I should go lay down again, my BP is rising....
