IMPORTANT: Before you buy a gun safe or lock, check with the LPL first!

I've been watching the LockPickingLawyer for years. He has well over 1500 videos, and he provides a very important service to all of us, in that he shows us what NOT to buy.

He's a talented dude and it's a very interesting channel to watch. No antics, animations, sponsors, cut scenes, affiliate links, etc. He doesn't waste a second of his video time.

Exceptions: On April 1st of every year you can expect a thoroughly hilarious video, and twice a year he promos a sale and new prodicts for his online store where he sells LockPicking tools.

I'm sure at least some of you have seen the LPL, but I'm posting this to make sure ALL of you know about him.

Youd be astonished how weak some of our gun safes and locks and locks in general are. He finds the weaknesses and shows you.

This is just one of MANY....

Just another couple of notes on the LPL:

  • He is a real attorney, though he hides his identity very well so we can't confirm this 100%, but he has no reason to lie and he speaks like a real attorney, so we can safely assume that he is.
  • Nobody knows his name or what he looks like.
  • His company, Covert Instruments, is in conjunction with another notorious lockpicker named "McNally Official" on youtube. Another great channel, but far less refined than the LPL. Depends your tastes, you may love or hate him, but the boy is TALENTED in weapons and lockpicking. In fact, he reminds me a lot of some of you. Anyway, Covert Instruments sells high quality products. I've bought a few, they work well.
  • The LPL is not sponsored and does not take free locks from manufacturers. In fact, manufacturers fear him greatly. When he does a new video on a product that can be found on Amazon, especially if it's bad (and it usually is), Amazon has to disable reviews on that product because of the flood (shame on Amazon, dirty bastards). Sometimes his videos even get the product page pulled entirely.
  • He does sometimes get trick locks or challenge locks mailed to his PO box and they almost always result in a really fun video.
  • If you're going to get into his channel, I do recommend starting with video #1 and watching them all in order. Seems like a daunting task with 1600+ videos, but his videos tend to be on the shorter side... usually no more than 5 minutes or so. Even if you're busy you can knock that out in a few weeks in your free time.
  • While the majority of the products in his videos are poor, occasionally you'll get an "almost positive" review. If it takes him more than a couple of minutes to break into it, rest assured, it's a VERY secure product and you can safely buy one.
  • His arch nemesis is Master Lock Co. He demonstrates just how poor their products are on a regular basis. Moral of the story: Stay away from Master.
Anyway, that's the LPL in a nutshell for the curious.

Considering how import firearm security is, this is an extremely important channel for all of us. I've been on a gun safe (or "safe box") spree lately. I have a slide out safe bedside with my Shield 1.0 and another quick access mounted to my dresser that I use for dumping my pocket pistol at night.

I have a few more of those cheaper lock boxes (you can't really call them "safes") throughout my house, and a proper criminal with a prybar can access any of them in mere minutes. When I'm going on vacation or something, all of my guns go in the proper safe that's alarmed and everything.

Most of the gun-related products he reviews fall into this category: Lock boxes. The standard he uses isn't for pro burglars (you need to spend thousands on those safes) but to "keep out a curious teenager" and you'd be amazed how many of the locks and boxes fail this standard.

Here's another one of my favorites (video below). It's amazing what these companies are thinking when they make this junk. The more of his videos you watch, the better off you'll be when it comes time to buy a security product for your firearms/ammo/valuables. You'll be able to spot the warning signs, like if it has a tubular lock, just don't buy it.

Even on my older model Sentry that's properly made, with a dial combination and cross-key lock. I thought the cross-style 4-blade key was the height of security. Nope, the LPL can rake it open in about 10 seconds. So I went on ebay and found an Abloy Protec2 high security cylinder, and modified my safe for it. I even changed my house locks because of the LPL.

When you realize just how easy it is to bypass/pick pretty much anything found in the Home Depot comedy aisle, it'll keep you up at night.

The point is, you'll LEARN valuable things on his channel, and at the end of the day, hopefully, you and your firearms will be much more secure for it. Hope this helps!

Heres the INSANE video I was telling you about. It's also one of the products that was pulled because of the LPL.

Good info!

the safe that a gun can come out thru the door is a joke!
My mouth actually opened when I saw that. Made me question every Amazon purchase I ever made. And that product had raving 5 star reviews, too. If you look for it you can find it buried in their store page, but it's marked as unavailable. You can still see the 5 star reviews. It's enough to make anyone physically ill.
