Indoor Gun Range Fees

If you are paying a range fee and you are a member, that is a problem.. Reason for becoming a member is so you don't need to pay a range fee. That should be included in your membership.

Firstly , their is a distinction between commercial ranges having a prepaid fee for a period of time being called a " Membership " vs a private club , not for profit , for the mutual benefit of the Membership.

And even with the later , it's not unheard of to have a nominal fee for each range visit . Or a multi tier membership. I.e. one for general membership for social activities , helping out the political clout , etc , and up charge for full range privileges.

Like one association of multiple clubs l'm associated with . I can shoot at events and matches put on by my individual club . But full access anytime is $3 - 400 / year .

If you lived nearby , and went multiple times a year, it's a bargin . But it's a cpl hours each way for me , and l had to drop it , if l only made it up there a cpl times a year .

Indoor range near here is over 65 miles away. Too far. We have a county range but is all outside. For retired military it's $47 a year. They are always making improvements. Longest rifle range right now is 200 yards but they are trying to put in a 400 yard. They have plenty of benches and most areas are covered.

But for a majority of the overall population, it's the other way around .

Indoor commercial ranges can exist in fairly densely populated areas , and longer range outdoor ranges are serious road trip .

Yes , l know our hobby , and this Board skew rural . ( l elsewhere mentioned my unique location in rural pocket, surrounded by huge megalopolis , in some ways worst of each . )

But ( without googling latest stats ) the big majority of the overall population is in urban / dense suburban environment .

For those concerned about a few hundred dollars a year or lane fees on top of that…there’s always this . Glad my local indoor range is holding study at $250 a year for a family membership (spouse only) allowing for unlimited lane usage.

We used to have three outdoor ranges in the Victoria area now we have none. Have to drive to Port Lavaca or Cuero to shoot $300.00 annually for Cuero and $100.00 in Port Lavaca. Never have shot at an indoor range don't know if I'd like it or not.

Being from South Central Texas, I am sure you would love the air conditioning in an indoor range.

BTW, I speak from experience.

If people are willing to pay it is it really a rip off? /Shrug.... I'm lucky not only do I have an Indoor range less than two miles from me we have a fantastic outdoor range within driving distance with a 1,000 yard range steel targets, trap, skeet and a WHOLE lot more :<).

If people are willing to pay it is it really a rip off? /Shrug.... I'm lucky not only do I have an Indoor range less than two miles from me we have a fantastic outdoor range within driving distance with a 1,000 yard range steel targets, trap, skeet and a WHOLE lot more :<).

I also live in California and we have a great outdoor range in Livermore next time I am out you way I will check it out in Sac

The outdoor range I use opens at 8:00AM, get there about 7:30 setup and start shooting by 8:00. I'm able to shoot for about 2 hours before our 90-100 degree temps kick in our Summer heat.

Seriously . You're paying for the Private Club ( in the upper crust tradition ) that happens to have a shooting lane , not just a place to shoot .

And $8.5K isn't an issue . The people that join here are typically using as a tax write off , for business meetings , and entertaining clients . It's the equivalent of a Country Club membership , just with guns instead of golf clubs .

And the More it costs , the More it Impresses clients . It not costing members real money out of their pocket , no matter how much it costs .
