Very good article, thank you for sharing. My husband travels out of town for work and can be gone for weeks at a time on calls. Everything in this article is utilized out here, except for dogs. I work long hours and I commute, which means a dog (or dogs) would be on their own for many hours which can be fine in a kennel or dog run during the fairer months, but not in winter. Once I retire I have my heart set on a husky or an akita.

I had to laugh at the reference to a thief being more afraid of a dog than an armed woman. It's true I suppose, a big snarling dog can be pretty off putting, but the thief has no idea what that little woman can do with gunpowder and lead...jusy sayin'

Get the husky, great companions. I have had 6 of them and they have all been fantastic.

Great article! Thanks
Best advice , gets as many dogs as you can feed/shelter and keep healthy with vet visits.
We have owned many. German Shepherd’s, Rotts, Dachshund's and even a little mean *** ankle bitter Chihuahua . All have been fantastic watch dogs. Currently our Lab is older and more laid back and the Dalmatian is definitely more aggressive and protective. Part of it’s the high strung breed but she (unlike many in her breed )won the hearing lottery. We have been thinking about fostering another that gets along with ours now.
Aside from the security they will always be happy to see you and will always love you if you love them.
