Is Kimber the go-to for 1911s these days?

My poor opinion of Kimber is based on years of shooting IDPA. I've seen far more Kimbers choke on the firing line than any other brand. I don't want one.
Once again not owning them. Maybe it was operator error? Maybe his spring sucked or he used an old magazine /shrug more Kimber's for us lol. We're not mad you haters Don't like em we just don't care lol

Back when I was a law enforcement officer, my states alcoholic law enforcement branch decided that Kimbers were the way to go.
Suffice to say, the A.L.E. Kimbers lasted less than four years, by and large due to the types proven unreliability under RANGE circumstances. I was glad I never had to carry one on duty.

In their early years the Kimbers did have a lot of issues. I bought the one I had in 2010 and never had anything go wrong with it. The trigger certainly wasn't as good as the Garrison I have now.

I’d rather have a Springfield 1911. They have about any flavor you want and excellent customer service.
On the other hand, I recently got a Rock River Carry 1911 and it is a gem. Can’t quibble with a guarantee to shoot 2.5”@50yards! My TRP is great but not in that league.

I had a TRP back about 2010, or 2011 that, after a few personal preference changes (ditched the full length guide rod namely), the thing shot clover leafs at 25 yards.

Only time I "missed " a shot was when I overthought a shot.

I've never been a Kimber fan. Over rated and over priced in my opinion.
Although Kimber fan boys seem to be as fanatical as Glockophiles. ;)
I do find it interesting that one of the calibers this new gun is offered in is 38 Super. I am quite fond of this old cartridge an AFAIK this is the only 38 Super DS anybody makes. So I will give 'em credit for that.
I ain't no Glockophile! I've said this before. My Gen 5 19 is the only "plastic gun" I own, and I hate the thing because it runs better and is more accurate than all my other out of the box wood and steel pistols. :)

Speaking of which, I'm giving the basic MILSPEC Defender a hard look as my range gun, and safe-queening my unfired pre-70 series Colt 1911. My buddy has owned the Brazil-made Springfield 1911 GI model for over 20 years and hasn't had one issue with it.
