Is the AR-15 a Good Choice for a Beginner?

A long long time ago when ARs were not around the first thing I did was take my three kids to the back 40 where I had some targets, filled water jugs along with couple of cantaloupe and 2 watermelon that had faces marked on them. I was in law enforcement and had my equipment in the house because we didn't have nice locker room and equipment storage. I let them hold different types of ammo along with wheel guns and pistols. I explained why I did not want them (under 12 yrs old) to touch my work tool. I ask them what they thought those small bullets would do. They thought that it might sting that's when the demonstration began and lasted a little over 2 hours of show and tell. My daughter and son today own ARs along with other fire arms and they are both very good with there equipment. But I am old school and have even itroduced my grandson and my granddaughters are knowledgeable in regards to today's. My sons birthday is 9 eleven and he went in the Army and spent time in the sandbox. We compared how things were during his time and mine. He's my youngest and he's a grandpa now so he's become a teacher. My daughter has taught her daughters very well. I still worry about all of them. When the movie Taken which starred Liam Neeson came out and my granddaughter was going to Europe she made her watch the movie. She told stay with the group because your dad won't go to find you, your grandpa is a different story. Yes there was still some living friends then but they have been called home awhile back.
