Do As I Say, Not As I Do
Out of storage comes my trusty old, original Ruger Standard (precursor of the MK I), and I should have stopped right there. To make sure everything would be rea

Definitely a bear and then some……I just stopped taking the older Ruger’s apart and just used Gun Scubber to blow out any debris, to easy to break the recoil spring rod if you don’t line up everything rightI have one of these they can be a bear to put back together
take before/after pics, i'd like to see how that thing works.I purchased this not long after i got my Mark I. It sits behing the hammer strut so it doesn’t get caught behind another pin. I haven’t installed it because i don’t take apart the Mark I very often. I may try it this week just to see if it works. This thread renewed my curiosity in this… at least for now.

wow, almost looks like too, that the hammer strut has some damage.....Well, i gave it a try but stoped before i messed things up. In the pic the pin that the hammer strut support is supposed go under is at the bottom of the picture. You’ll notice that it is bent. I did not want to try to tap it out because there is no way it would have gone in under the support. So i am leaving well enough alone and will just have to do the “Mark I Mambo” to get it back together.
Since it was apart i gave it a thorough cleaning and got it back together with a minimum of curse words.
I was hoping to report some good information but alas i’ve come up empty handed. Story of my life.View attachment 42701
The strut appears to be fine when looked at “in person”.wow, almost looks like too, that the hammer strut has some damage.....
jeez, for a 22..????
"softer metal" than what should be there..???
hotter loads taking thier toll on parts..???
the only "other alternative", is to get a new pin, and SLOWLY run it thru the frame, maybe from left to right, so that the spring is kept captured.???
i dunno, may be a smiths job from here on out.
I took it dancing too. I’m a gentleman who knows a good time.Did you buy it dinner before doing the Ruger? Might make it easier.
