I think a person sentenced to death should be allowed two appeals. Mistakes sometimes do happen. But after that, just get it over with.
i actually always did agree on at least 1 appeal.... but 2 appeals..??

i dunno, but i could entertain that idea.

but there would also have to be a limit on time to file any appeal, and get back to the courts ASAP.

the court calendar should be cleared just for that person

stalling tactics could take place, at least i believe so, on the defense side.

as in maybe "judge shopping"..???

after the final appeal, if still guilty, carry out the sentence ASAP, to cut prison costs on keeping a scumbag healthy and well fed, until that day.

The bigger cost on a death row inmate isn’t housing or feeding but the increased legal scrutiny and appeals and most don’t get to do it by Zoom which incurs manning to go to and from court.

In the Federal system it usually means travel back to whichever US Court district and BOP and US Marshals staff woth $$$ in OT. Especially for government prosecutors that work the cases on behalf of the victims (not that it isn’t worth it just that’s a major cost reason)

As far as appeals I wouldn’t mind 2 just expedite it. My reason is courts consistently get things wrong. Look no further yha various 2A cases folks get initially convicted for and then get them overturned.

Bur in a case where 110% yea it’s proven then carry it out.

I believe having someone sit on “death row” for years constitutes “cruel and unusual punishment“. An appeal IF there is any question At ALL that the perp committed the crime. If there is NO Doubt (shooter in front of beaucoup witnesses, caught in the act) I think a fair trial and a speedy hanging is in order. Why waste taxpayer money for paying for trials, keeping the animal alive and a threat to the jailers (he’s on death row. What’s he got to lose if he kills a guard?)
