It’s Gen 3…Maybe?

Gen 3 is an abbreviated way to convey that a product is in its third generation and has undergone two revisions since its initial introduction.

In our world—the world of firearms—when somebody says Gen 3 they are almost always referencing the Glock pistol. Glock has seen Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4 and Gen 5. And now, there’s the V iteration that has recently come to market.

Spoiler Alert: Here’s where the problem lies.

Used to somewhat apply to S&W Autos

2 Digit - 1st Gen
3 Digit - 2nd Gen
4 Digit - 3rd Gen

Caveat - The 469 , 669 were Gen 2.5 . Introduced near the end of the 2nd Gen cycle , they had the 3rd Gen internal improvements, with still 2nd Gen exterior.

But yeah, Brand G just threw a monkey wrench into their nomenclature system .

From ( arabic) numbers into letters ? But V = Five in Roman Numerals . But wait , we already have a Gen 5 ?!?

Scuttlebutt from the World of Glock Afficianados is in the near up to foreseeable future, will becoming the Gen 6 . Back to numbers .

Seems to point to the theory that the V Series was just a slap dash attempt at craven political pandering ( & quickly pointless ) , and seperate from any deliberate improvement/ evolution .

Cynical take - BUY V Series , because as a short lived evolutionary backwater , they will be low production numbers , and hence Valuable Rarities.
