I've Had My Fill - Looking For Recommendations

I've had it with Portland. I'm going to relocate. Southern Idaho, Utah, and Oklahoma are my prime target locations thus far. I'm not keen on harsh weather nor am I thrilled about tornadoes even though I see those possibilities with the locations I am considering.

I'm looking for solid Red with strong 2A mindsets.

Feedback and other potential considerations will be greatly appreciated.

My entire life has been lived in SoCal, NorCal, and the PNW to give you some insight into how I am acclimated.

Thank you for your wisdom.
Texas- huge state. Lots of outdoor activity, beaches, woods of E TX, ton of lakes for fishing, boating, great Tax environment and very pro 2A and hunting. Suppressors, SBR’s, FRT’s and anything legal per ATF is legal in Texas . Including full auto with proper permits. Do it all state. Generous hunting seasons. Between bird, deer and small game, lots of hunting. Hogs yr round, no permit, no limit, use any means necessary.

N Tx does get a little snow/ice, but mostly in late Jan/Feb and goes away. Winter is like 3 weeks here, but mother nature storms in for another word randomly thru Dec- March.

Central Texas has some blue around Austin, but nice with more hills and rolling terrain.
S Tx has some nice woods in SE and beaches with all those coastal activities
E Tx is lots of dense woods and lakes. Less populated.
W tx is rattlesnakes, oil, space launches and void of anything one would want except for peace and little population.

Housing is affordable. City/burbia 3 bed/2 bath will run $400-$500k
$300k in outer counties from city.
$200-$300k in rural.
On avg for homes.

Most folks I know from CA, NY or PNW, own 2 homes here cause they sold for $1million for a 3/2 home there. They Buy a $500k and then they buy a $300k vacation home on the lake, woods or close to coast

Come to Texas

Texas. The reality. Texas is a purple state on every level. Our state legislature is horrible. The RINOs in charge give half the chairmanships to democrats. They let the dems get away with fleeing the state when a tough vote comes up. Cornyn is a Democrat. The bit cities are blue as they come, maybe with the exception of Ft. Worth being purple. Maybe. There are far worse places alright, but Texas is no longer the great state. It's just a state. And I'm a native Texan, I'm allowed to say that.

I've not seen anyone suggest Arizona. There's much to do from hiking to hunting, stargazing to fishing, mining to manufacturing. Sonoran desert to Alpine Forest, water skiing to snow skiing.

But, everything is a compromise in life, ain't nothing perfect, not even a town or city.

I love Southern Arizona, but it ain't perfect. The weather is great, got lots of beach, but no water. We have little humidity, but plenty of stupidity because we have people in politics. But there's plenty of ways to make a living in Arizona, from farming to mining to manufacturing and more.

One year my sister sent me a Christmas post card from Phoenix. Picture of the front of her trailer mobile home. On the back, she wrote, "Look -- I rearranged my rocks."

"Twin" (aka Twin Falls, ID) is a good central location for southern ID.

1/2 way between IF& Pokie and the greater Boise area.

There's a Costco in Twin.

Right on the Interstate & the highways going north to the Sun Valley area/Sawtooths & south into N. NV.

West to E. Oregon/W. Central Idaho, and East to the Tetons & western WY, then south on I-15 into NE UT and a easy drive to eastern CO.

A bit windy on the Snake River Plain but good sun. Can get some snow dumps when the storm tracks comes thru N. CA.

Good Rec opportunities on the Middle Snake River accessed from state parks & Wildlife Mgt areas along it.

Moved to S. Utah in 2001 from SoCal. Utah is a conservative state but the SLC area is liberal. Long as you make your move north or south of it, all is good. Moved south to the red rock area. Life is good. Not LDS, but neighbors are, but no conflicts. State liquor stores in every community. Contact me if your ideas lean this way!

Born and raised in Texas (78 years) would never consider living anywhere else. I believe our nation is in decline don't see it getting any better.

We moved to Florida 46 years ago and we love it here. We now are in rural Florida with an entirely different character than the Tampa Bay area where we lived before. We're not going anywhere but I would also be happy in rural Texas. We love the proximity of the Gulf of America but have hurricane concerns every summer.

well at my age, i have said its getting impossible for the wife and me to leave..

but i know for a fact, i would NEVER leave RI for an even colder, snowy place....

i was no taxes, 2A protections, and nice year long warmer weather

but too, i do not want the bugs, or the leaping lizards falling outta tree's, or the alamagators running across my front or rear doors.

so, i have a buddy in NV, he's always saying plenty of land there and still somewhat cheaper..

if not there, then maybe AZ, with a slight chance of NM

maybe even Arcansaw, and be a neighbor to @Belt Fed , my young'n old mirror image....
