Just Diagnosed With Diabetes

I got lucky, one of my glucose tests was 103 which is getting borderline pre stage.
My doc told me to change my diet.
He told me to stop all my white breads and go wheat, change my pasta to whole wheat and have portions the size of my fist, that was tough pasta taste is quite different.
He said if I drink beer to drink MGD 64 it has the least carbs.
He said make those changes and we will check again in six months, went from 103 to 76.
Good luck with your struggle!!

Have been diabetic going on 30 years or so. Mines pretty much under control by with oral medication and diet.
I don't waste money on a CGM. I check mine 3-4 times a week and get my AIC every 3 months. My doctor is fine with it under 8.0, but I strive for under 7.0

At close to 70 years old, I don't "not" eat things on special occasions.

40 year's ago they supposedly had a cure, but you can't make money curing diabetes which is most drug companies #2 money maker after cancer drugs

My dad got the type 2 beetus about 30 years ago, his side of the family until him only the women got the type 1 beetus, the easy one.

He for the past 10ish years has had "difficultes" with the drs...

The things that helped him the most he actually swears excersize even just walking helps the most.

My dad because he knows his beetus best uses a stabber and reader everyday 2-3 times a day the 3 is if his BS is higher.

Quit or eat less of certain foods oh yeah my dad was a drunkard his was mostly beer. So slow the alcohol drinking. And excersize even just walking helps with many things with pre and type 2 beetus...

Best for you and get a 2nd, 3rd opinion on pre-beetus because drs/pill makers make a lot of money with beetus mis-truths...

The VA has had me on Metformin for 3 years maybe four. My A1C has gone from in the sevens to 5.9. The VA also put me in the "Move" (AKA VA Fatboy Club) program.

The Move program has given me a lot of education in regards to diet (not dieting)
More importantly I come home from the move program and give all the handouts to my wife and she incorporates the ideas into our diet.

I generally eat one traditional meal a day. The rest of the day I concentrate on raw vegetables and fruits.

I don't eat anything between 8p and 8a, and I do a water only fast from Friday at 8p to Monday at 8A.

I'm not sure if it puts me in a calorie deficit but it does give me the discipline to turn down that second helping of dinner or that bowl of ice cream after the 10 O'clock news.

My blood sugar is usually in the low 90s to the low 120s.

my dad got it bad about 10 years ago
lost his right leg below knee 16 months ago
i had to learn allot about diabetes..
one quack told him wild turkey was good for the disease
my dad took that as alcohol not bird
he had denial for years,
I cant stress enough....read , educate, ASK lots of questions from your doctors
WATCH for low blood circulation in the feet and toes...ACT fast if you notice toes dont look right or they are cold all the time
diabetes is not the time to be a hero

he just had the good leg veins opened up again..and one toe on that leg is now fighting off infection,

he has the stick on glucose meters and does get a shot daily..

please eat correctly , no weird fad diets please
drink plenty of water, lots really

i will add you to the prayers..

I’m disgusted finding out that CGM devices are NOT covered by Medicare until my or anyone’s diabetes becomes worse and forced to be on insulin.
In other words there will be no help for you financially to help with your medical issues until you become extremely ill.

Sorry to be blunt however my post was about being diagnosed with Diabetes not beetus so although I appreciate your input I’m an adult not a juvenile and to me this is serious.

Be blunt if you want... the quick/short story of me and nearly half my family's fight with diabetes... grandmother had type 1 the longest and least "complications" 86, her oldest daughter an ex-nurse type 1 but had alot of complications 62, youngest son a marine vet. and sarge of the local police force retired and didn't get past 2 years type 2 i think is what he had 55ish if that and SR. until he had to go to a new doctor, had no serious complications or any until he had to change doctors (his 1st doctor was there since SR. was a kid, he retired and his son who he practiced with took fully over SR's care but died about 7ish years ago) SR. is 71 has had the type 2 diabetes for roughly 20+ years and it's gotten so bad/complicated because the last 2 doctors have their heads so far up drug company's butt they cant see the charts in their offices...

And the beetus thing is a joke thing in my family because of the old PSAs and all. So i wasn't trying to poke fun at you.

So a tiny apology to you @Keystone19250 my people including a friend who got diagnosed with pre-diabetes 4 years ago, kind of joke around alot even with/during serious things like diabetes....
