KNIVES- What would you carry?

So i was kidnapped and dumped somewhere to survive. Any of the places listed i would use the knife they left me with, maybe my flea market folder. It would slice down my arms with no problem.... there ain't no hamburgers or freedom frys so why try to survive.....

In certain areas the ax might be replaced by a machete. A machete and a smaller 4 to 5 inch fixed blade can do a heck of a lot of work in the woods and rain forest type areas.

For strictly going with blades, not multi-tools or something axe like I would take my Becker Companion II for a big blade (or maybe their Tac-Tool). For a shorter, pocket carry I could go with anything. I have Spyderco, SOG, CRKT...

If spending the night(s) in griz country I like these two large TOPS Knives for heavy duty camp prep & chores.

The Tahoma is more versatile with more built-in features.

Smaller blades for less demanding stuff.

What is that?
EK Commando Knife Company # 5 Bowie. I bought this through the mail directly from the Company. Back then that was the only way you could get one. You had to include a copy of your Military credentials along with the order form and a money order. I got this one in the Mid-80’s.
They’re no longer being made. KA-BAR bought the rights to the name and design but they’re nothing like the original 🇺🇸🪖

When I was about 10 dad gave me a book, Woodcraft and Camping by George W. Sears aka Nessmuk. It was published in 1884, its been continously published since. It is a great book on life outdoors. He was opinionated but who isn't in thier choices. I learned a lot from it and am on my second copy.

In it he discusses his ideas for woodcraft blades and in knife circles his Nessmuk Trio are famous and still discussed often today.

Ever since I was a kid I pretty much use a version of his trio, today I always carry a sheath knife and a chopper of some kind with me when I woods wander. The folder option is usually carried in my backpack or shooting bag.

A much used Nessmuk Trio

Herters again, but they made a belt double bit hatchet. Still have the metal but the sheath and handle are long gone (I bought it in the 60s). If anyone is interested, I can look for it. I may be weird, but hate to see a firearm or edged weapon languish.

Nothing is ever like the original 🤫
