ya, kinda like a martial arts scene - take the john wick III scenes where those 145lb asian lads give mr reeves character a kick (he is 175lb btw) and he goes flying through the plate glass display stands. Uh huh. very realistic indeed.
 
It's been widely rumored that the hollywood scene usually makes gasoline or related explosive energy "bombs" bc either they can't get the permits or the real things. Petroleum blasts makes lots of red flame expansive cloud like formations and the smoke afterwards is visually impressive. The audiences by and large don't know the difference.

They also use compressed air with packed Fuller's Earth to simulate explosive impacts.
