MACV-SOG’s Secret "Silver Pistol"

Thanks for your service in a non-declared war zone. A military conflict or police action, give me a break. 52,000+ Americans died or went missing in this so-called military conflict. A disgrace, to say the least.

No, the Vietnam War was not officially a "police action," though it was never formally declared a war by the United States Congress. While the U.S. government sometimes referred to it as a police action to avoid a formal declaration of war, it was a large-scale military conflict involving hundreds of thousands of troops on both sides.

Interesting, excellent article. To read that these SOG patrols worked in enemy territory beyond friendly artillery support or even radio range, is a true testament to their professionalism and skill.

Browning HP and the 1911 are my Faves'. If you are not familiar with SOG during the RVN war there are some great books by some SOG Green Berets. 'We Few' by Nick Brokhousen is a good start.

Interesting article. I was slightly thrown off by the Model P-35 because it looked liked my Browning High Power. Looking it up It is the same as my 9MM Browning. I love this gun. I purchased this gun 54 years ago in 1971 for $111.00 in NYC. I carried this in NYPD Civilian clothes assignments, (only firing it once in the line of duty) until the NYPD banned its use as a carry pistol. I still own it complete with the Browning booklet, bill of sale and carry case that it came with. I haven't fired the gun in 30 years. I checked on it recently it's still in excellent condition. I have been meaning to take it to the range with my 2 Springfield Armory 9mm's to shoot it after giving it the once over.

I must have been overlooked by command or couldn’t be found in the mountains with the montanyards

I must have been overlooked or couldn’t be found by command while in the mountains with the group of Montagnards that were being trained.

During my tour in Vietnam 65-66 I was offered a new Browning Hi Power still packed in the dry pack by one of my teammates. No US Gov. markings, price $45. I was told they were destined for ARVN officers and had been “waylaid”. I turned down the deal but still wonder if I should have.

If I remember correctly, Inglis in Canada made P-35's with tangent sights that were supposed to use detachable shoulder stocks to be sent to the Chinese during WWII. Special pistols are scant recognition to men who "were never there, doing things that never happened," and whose few medals often read "Along the border of the Republic of Vietnam," instead of where they were actually earned.
