Make your own percussion caps?

Does or has anyone made their own percussion caps with this kit (below) or a similar method? Is it more cost effective and worth one's time over buying and shipping the caps?

On a similar note, what about making your black powder for for muzzleloaders from pyrotechnics kits?

Many years ago a friend bought a product called, “Tap A Cap” for making one’s own percussion caps. The caps were made using the aluminum from a beer can and a cap pistol cap. The amount of time and effort involved to make even a small amount of caps (he made a dozen caps) just wasn’t worth the effort. He tested the “caps” with only about half able to actually fire a round. My friend told me later that the unit later broke after only producing another dozen caps. With musket caps averaging about $.08/cap today, the number of caps you’d need to produce still wouldn’t be cost effective enough!
