As of December 2025, living Medal of Honor recipients receive a significantly increased special tax-free pension of $5,625 per month ($67,500 annually), signed into law by the Monetary Enhancement for Distinguished Active Legends (MEDAL) Act. This pension is in addition to any other military retirement or VA benefits.
