Not sure how this works in other states but in Michigan there is an open carry law, however it does not extend to the vehicle. According to Michigan law there is no way to open carry in a vehicle. The only way a loaded firearm can be carried or transported inside of the vehicle is with a Cpl.

As far as I know, it's the same in Pennsylvania. We have Open Carry, but inside a vehicle is considered concealment and one would need the concealed carry permit to legally have one loaded inside the driving/passenger compartment. This only applies to handguns, rifles must be unloaded if carried in a vehicle regardless of whether one has a ccp or not. At least that the way I heard it when I looked into getting my ccp.

Alabama was the same in needing a permit to carry in a vehicle. Now it is a constitutional carry state so it is no longer needed.
