Laguna Seca is a race track that is actually in Fort Ord. I was at Laguna Seca for a CART race that was the same weekend as the air show in Salinas.
Right after the Soviet Union collapsed, a MIG-29 came over and flew in the Salinas Air Show. Then it diverted and came out over the race track.Total surprise to us. It circled the track a few times, flew straight up, stood on its tail and fell backwards, lit the candle and then left.
I was in the middle of a US military base and a Russian fighter jet was doing stunts.
I'll never forget it.
