Mil-Spec 1911 “Retro Custom”

Older model TRP in standard government. Things I didn't want like two piece full length guide rod. Went GI rod while adding flat wire recoil spring. All from Wilson. Baer plug. Not much sense in needing a allen for a basic field strip to me.
This pistol stated as a stock Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911 45 ACP. Nighthawk Customs did the work using Harrison Design Retro Custom parts. It looks Smooth and Elegant 😊
Disclaimer: This isn’t mine. It’s what I want. Everything I need and Nothing I don’t. I would switch out the thumb safety and the slide stop for the ones Harrison Design offers.

Got some top focals from SSP for the range. They help.

TRP Operator 45acp, full rail. Full length guide rod (paper clip edition). I use full lense 1.5 reader shooting glasses off Amazon. Works pretty good for my eyes.

Kudos to those of you that can focus or even see a 3" target at 50 yards. I can keep about 7 or 8 out of 10 rounds inside of a 3.5" shoot-n-see target at 15 yards with no problem, inside the 9 ring of large silhouette at 25. The Ole peepers ain't quite what they used to be.

50 yards, LOL, LEOs only qualify to 25 yards with their side arm.

Most of them, even SRT/SWAT types don't shoot their primary weapon past that, or even more than once a month.

Past qual range, shots are a liability.....

Bought a SW 69 44 magnum revolver about 10 years ago. Since then I've probably pushed the envelope with around $800 in mods. Quad porting etc etc etc. Think I've gone as far as I can go.

So... Does anyone else here purchase a firearm that's inherently fine just the way it is and try to improve on it? Asking for a friend 😉

Did once, bought a beautiful TRP, and proceeded to change out the recoil system. Tossed the full length guide rod, and plunger.

Replaced the spring guide with a short USGI standard part, and a Wilson Bulletproof plunger. J.M.B. never saw the need for such a setup, and I hate full length guide rods.......

Gun was perfection out of box, I just added to it.

Basically did the same thing. Flat wire recoil spring with GI rod. I fkn love it.

I agree. I also prefer the arched mainspring housing. It just feels better in my hand. I definitely don’t want a magazine well. A nicely done bevel is good enough for me🤠
