Mom hits 2-year-old son during jail visit, and gets put in jail, NC sheriff says

Hi,

What is this world coming to? My parents were big fans of corporal punishment. They never slapped or punched the head or face. We would never be punished in public. But when we got home I would be given a choice, the belt or cut my own switch, to be applied only to my backside and never bare skin.

I agree, to whack a two year old in the head is abuse. Lord have mercy.

Same here, if punishment was done out of the house, it was in the restroom, or out next to the car. But either of those were only done if the transgression was very, VERY bad.

And I've picked my own switch too, GAWD I hated that.......

So she was visiting someone in lockup. Im guessing that means she hangs around with the finest company...

As for striking the child since theres no audio OR video, I'll hold back on judgement. Its hard to imagine many valid reasons; but the child being a 2 year old isnt likely to be the most stable or agile, so falling down isnt unreasonable. The single slap might not have been a serious beating, certainly not as bad as a belt or switch. All the more so because the home visit failed to show any injuries.

The story is wildly incomplete but just enough to stir an emotional response

Someone going to visit a family member in jail means that they only hang out with the finest company

by the way...what is a switch...??

this is the only switch i knew of....would this be what you mean..????

or would he have cut it off, and i get get to watch tv that night...???


i ain't never heard of cutting your own switch......
 
A good swat on the backside never hurt anyone and most certainly has done a lot of good. Kids and mules, sometimes ya just got to get their attention. HOWEVER, a backhand to the head is a whole other ball game to a swat on the backside.

Was it a back hand? Cuz thats a whole lot different then a punch
