Monarch ammo from Academy

Anyone here regularly use Monarch ammo from Academy? If so, have u had any issues with it?
I understand it’s made in various places…just wondering about quality.

Have used it a couple times without issues. Went in with a couple guys at the range when they had a sale on some. I would do that again.

Well thinking on it in all fairness what we went in on and I used was . 38 special and .357 FMJ not pistol ammunition. At the time my only pistols were 9x18 makarov and 45 acp and they were not what we got. The others got 9x19mm also.

I got a 100 pack of 9mm and it was the most inconsistent ammo I have ever used. Some was plus p powered a few barely made it through the target and the others in between.
For that reason and the fact it was rather dirty I recommend folks stay away from it

Same. It’s supposedly not remans or steel casing, but it is as cheap as chips and not fit for much, IMO. Shot a couple boxes when ammo was hard to find during the pandemic, but now I avoid like the plague.

It’s Academy’s home brand.

I've only bought it in 9mm. It's the only ammo my m/p 1.0 didn't like. That lacquer finish is the problem!

I have used a lot of it. I did have problem with one steel case.

the .223 and 5.56 ammo is usually PPU rebranded for Academy. Hit or miss on the 9mm, sometimes PPU, sometimes BPS. Can't speak to the other calibers. I've shot thousands of rounds of the .223 and 5.56, and 9mm. Never had issues.

for me, even though i clean and lube after every range visit, i'd rather shoot Magtech....

not only that, but in the picture in this article, the brass to me, looks substandard.

when i tried getting ammo during the scandemic, many places were pushing steel cased ammo, with that lacquer coating..i stayed away. but i also stayed away under advice from the club members who said of the extractor issues.

I fired some today after I posted this thread (needed some more time to myself), both 9mm and .45…
Had no issues; seemed consistent.
Maybe a little on the dirty side, but not much. The .45 was PPU; I don’t recall the 9 head stamp other than it was NOT ppu. No lacquer.

If today’s experience is the norm, I’m fine with the brand. If it turns out to be a guessing game, I’ll let y'all know.

I try to stay away from any steel casing ammo and if its lacquered I don't even use it.
