Anybody into Morels. Here's our hunting results from Northern Illinois today.

I miss being able to get out and hunt them. Miss eating them even more. Nice gathering there

I rarely missed spring shroom hunting expeditions in my youth. We would gorge until nearly sick of them. Many years we would have plenty to share with family, and some left to sell.

I grew up in the Midwest and morels were a bounty on the farm every year. We don't have them on the ranch in NW Florida and I miss having the tasty treat

I would often look for them while turkey hunting. They were just as fun to find as a turkey plus they tasted better.

They come up every year in our yard. After cleaning them the little lady throws the stems & water in the fence row. It really works.

i take it then, the stems are not edible like mushroom, or artichoke stems..??? or they are bitter..???

I knew this old boy that would hunt them.
We fried up two whole buckets of morels and they were such a treat.
Now I am not about to trust myself.
It would be cow shrums or something else that would kill me slowly so ain't even going to try.

My father-in-law used to go out every year and bring back bushels of morels and button mushrooms to my house, but those old timers had their secret, sacred hunting grounds and never tell anyone, not even me.
I sure do miss him and his fresh mushrooms.

Try duxelles made with either morels or chanterelles AND brie in an omelette or they make for a savory beef stroganoff.

O-M , the stems are good to eat. He was saying they throw the stems out with the water so new ones will grow for the next year.
