Mounting a light

Recently bought myself a Springfield Armory XD Elite in 10mm. Want to mount a light and not sure what to buy. Considering StreamLight, and looked at one of those Oolights on Amazon. Friend of mine bought the latter and likes it.
Question for the group is, what rail does my pistol have? I mostly archery hunt, still consider myself new to the polymer guns.
I don’t want to trust an advertisement but would value advice given here.

Standard rail on your XD, mostly all guns use the same. Welcome from Ohio!

Welcome to the forum from South Texas. Have a Streamlight TLR-1 HL on my nightstand Sig P229 pistol. There are more than a few brands to choose from.

Welcome from the Ozarks! I just put (like 5 minutes ago) a Firefield Battletek light on my Beretta, usually about 60 bucks, bought it for $20, I can't believe the prices for a flashlight that you can clamp on a rail.

I put a G700 Amazon flashlight on my BP12, just got a pic clamp for a small scope and it works just fine. In fact, the flash light has a sliding magnifier and in one position it casts the image of a sight, like ^^^^^ so sometime I'll try to see if I can zero that in a bit at say 25 feet/10 yards.

I just can't see any practical use for a light that can bring a ship to shore or light up an airport, my living room isn't that big!

I have several Surefire lights, an O Light, and a Streamlight TLR1 HL. All of them are good quality lights. The Surefire are pricey but engineered to be dead nuts reliable. I have one on my shotgun and it takes recoil with no failure. My TLR1 HL on my 1911 pistol is also absolutely dependable. It was on my SIG P220 before and I went through several high round count instructor courses with it, and it never failed. So it's on my daily carry. I shoot .45 so it has had the torture test. My O Light is on my CMMG Banshee .45 and it is still running after several hundred rounds. The real test of thd O Light will be a year of use.

Blackpoint Tactical holsters can usually accommodate your pistol with a mounted light. I also.like veteran owned On Point Holsters.

Good luck in your quest.

Yep, and now I gotta find a new holster!

hey Cdanielson, welcome!

XDM Elites are great pistols, think you'll enjoy yours.
lights like most things usually come down to personal preference and budget.

I have an Olight on my XD Mod 2, it's been on there probably 6 or 7 years, has probably seen 20,000 rounds fired through that pistol and has never given me an issue.
Stream light: that is what I trust for my every day carry pistol (hellcat pro)
Surefire: top of the food chain but you'll pay for it. I run it on my Echelon which is my preferred work, training, and home defense pistol.

I say all of that to say: I've used them all, fortunate enough to never have issues with any of them so I think they're all a safe bet.
just depends on what you want to spend.
also as mentioned: this could limit your holster options so take that into account as well.

let us know what you end up with

I’ve worked with StreamLight flash lights for years, can’t say it’s all been a good experience. I’m a technician working paper mills for a chemical company, constantly in low light conditions so a flashlight is a must.
Last hard hat mounted light I bought lasted three months, the Coastal light I have now has been with me six months, and is lighter. Contacted StreamLight about a possible warranty claim, and they pretty much said they can’t honor it with the work conditions I’m in.
Shocked me, always thought they were decent standing by their product.

I agree! Bought this pistol in the event I ever get in dangerous game territory.
My company gives these inspire points, and I ended up with $400 worth of Bass Pro gift cards. Decided on a 10mm, chose SA over Glock model 20, and model 40.
Looking for a chest rig now, prefer one adjustable to wear underneath my arm at times, if it exists.

From what I see the XD ELITE 10mm has a "Mil-std-1913" pic rail. I use Surefire X300T-B, a bit pricey but built to last. Love the flush fit on 5" guns. Some say you want a light to reach past the muzzle end a bit to avoid going out of battery in a "close and personal" situation. That said, any of the units previously suggested should be a great addition. 10mm gonna test mounting system of them all. Good luck friend.

Great bargains to be had at both. Curious, why not a fan?
When I used to work at General Mills they used to sell stuff to Walmart that was about to expire all the time. Plus how they treat their employees is something that I don’t like. Also Walmart is a small town killer.

Amazon is just a glorified eBay to me. But of course I rarely do eBay anymore because I rather do a brick and mortar store.

Both valid points, I would have to agree with you. Well said friend.

That’s one thing I miss is going to the mall and seeing what is there. I have one where I live and it’s deader than my social life at the moment. Yes the internet is fun but at the same time going to the store and getting stuff is what I miss. I remember when Walmart wasn’t all the rage and worth going too.

Our oldest local shopping mall now houses a police substation. 10 or 12 stores left out of 100 or so. It is now flanked by a 24 hour poker room (huge). The property was sold to a developer that is promising upscale retail and multi family housing. We all know what will really become. Section 8 will occupy 20 to 30 % of available units and ultimately destroy the intended purpose.
