My early morning visitors

A nice wood “tire thumper” with a factory installed metal band around the business end rides in the truck and camper-handy for checking tires 😏. I don’t have any desire to have any confrontation with anyone-but we all know bad crap can happen anywhere to anyone. Be careful out there, this old world is a dangerous place.

I keep one of these handy for any potential late-night knocks on the door, and one in my rig.

Im really NOT saying this as a hit on anyone who suggests a club (baton, night stick, PR24, baseball bat, tyre thumper). Im just at a loss to see the virtue. Where I policed and where I now live, using a baton is the same thing as using a gun. Its deadly force. WHY take the chance of using a less effective tool when deadly force is authorized.

Theres no bonus points for solving the problem with less effective tools, so why take the chance?

The OP was able to effectively disable the greatest threat with his nightstick, and he was prepared to escalate if needed with a firearm. So, IMO he had his bases covered.

Sometimes a judge/jury will ask if there was a less-lethal alternative in an incident, and having your bases covered will cover your butt.

YES he did a great job of dismantling the attack; theres no question of that, and again I mean no disrespect....but had that failed transitioning to the gun may have been an issue.

PD/LEOs are expected to climb the use of force ladder. Civilians are NOT. A court cant ask if a lesser alternative was available IF not were present. Had the baton failed to achieve the hoped for results, then explaining why upping to the gun would have required the explanation. WHY bring it in to the argument?

My point is when someone needs shootin' SHOOT THEM dont ask them to dance.

It was the height of summer just about dusk when I was 14 and a car skidded to a stop in front of the house. Dad was working swing shift at the steel mill. We always kept the front door open with a stout wooden screen door to let the breeze in. A very pretty lady came screaming up the walk to the porch yelling "He's raping me" wearing just one sleave of her torn shirt.

My Mom flipped the hook and eye locks open and let her in. Here comes the dude shouting and cussing and Mom got all three locks on the door locked. I told her to shut the main door but the girl was standing there cussing at the guy so she couldn't. I ducked into the folks room and retrieved Dad's T series HiPower in its gun rug. The guy started pulling on the screen door handle. Then he put his foot up on the wall to brace for a better pull. I let the rug fall off the gun and racked the slide. 3 sets of eyes, big as saucers looking at me in a sudden silence. I said "Don't do that." The guy ran back to his car cussing and left. Mom gave the girl one of her blouses and she had family come pick her up. When Dad got home he asked whether I had cleared the chamber and wiped the gun down.

Never any other mention about it until the next family gathering with a passel of Aunts & Uncles and he and Mom told the story when the topic of home protection came up.
