YES he did a great job of dismantling the attack; theres no question of that, and again I mean no disrespect....but had that failed transitioning to the gun may have been an issue.The OP was able to effectively disable the greatest threat with his nightstick, and he was prepared to escalate if needed with a firearm. So, IMO he had his bases covered.
Sometimes a judge/jury will ask if there was a less-lethal alternative in an incident, and having your bases covered will cover your butt.
