My Experience Competing with the Springfield Armory Echelon

I wanted to share my experience competing with my Springfield Armory Echelon in an Action Steel match here in Puerto Rico.

This last competition was honestly one of my worst performances so far. I picked up some penalties, and my times were much slower compared to my previous match. But I also understand that this is part of the learning process. The main issue was not the gun or the setup — it was my lack of practice, stage planning, and execution under pressure.

My setup felt very good overall. I’m running the Echelon with Springer Precision magazines, basepads, magwell, and a 16 lb recoil spring. I absolutely love the Springer mags and basepads. The magwell worked perfectly, and the 16 lb recoil spring performed excellent during the match. The gun felt reliable, smooth, and easy to control.

I did have one issue after the match: one of the red dot screws broke, and half of it got stuck inside the frame. Now I have to take it to a gunsmith or shop here in Puerto Rico so they can remove it properly. Someone recommended that I look into using plates, but I’m not sure yet. I’ll check that before my next competition.

Even though this was not my best match, I still learned a lot. I need to improve my stage plan, stay more focused before each stage, and keep practicing until I feel more comfortable with my movement, reloads, and double taps.

Overall, I still really like the Echelon. The gun has a lot of potential for competition, and with the right parts and more practice, I believe it can perform very well. This match showed me that the equipment is not the problem — I simply need more time, more reps, and better execution.

I’ll leave the link here to my best stages from the match

Hi @Luisito,

Action Steel looks like a LOT of fun. Thanks for sharing your experience and you thoughts. I agree,  perfect practice makes perfect. It seems like you are doing great. There is a steel challenge near me and, one of these days, I'm going to try it. Continued good luck to you. I'm looking forward to your next match. And yes, I like my Echelon so much that I'm thinking of getting another one with the threaded 5.28" barrel.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
