So I came across the below article, which includes the sentence “It's also important for drivers to think ahead about their destinations, as events, travel destinations, or places where firearms are not permitted can increase the likelihood of theft.”

Perhaps instead of drivers forgoing their 2A rights, not to mention Texas’ Constitutional Carry rights, the powers that be should quit allowing places where citizen’s 2A rights are infringed…

I’m really don’t understand what you are upset about?
If someone leaves their firearm in their car it’s their fault it gets stolen.
It also doesn’t matter if a state has constitutional open carry laws every place “business” has the right to deny entry if open carrying so carry concealed or shop somewhere else.
If I miss understood your post then let me know.

Well, first, I don’t get upset about anything much these days.
Second, I generally hold thieves responsible for thefts.
There are many places, especially in BLUE Far Left Texas cities that forbid even concealed carry. What’s the point of Constitutional Carry if you can’t carry, open or concealed?

The title was meant for those folks leaving guns in their vehicles, so maybe you misunderstood that part?

About 5 years ago or so I was parked in a shopping center lot near the beltway in San Antonio while we went into a PetsMart. Someone broke into my truck with some tool that defeated the door lock. I didn't even know it had been broken into until I noticed my laptop and laptop bag were missing. They also stole a pair of handcuffs and 2 pistol magazines from the console. There were no guns in the truck but I am convinced that's what they were looking for. I learned that some pros specialize in vehicle burglaries for guns in the area and they are quick. I think pickup trucks are a pretty safe bet for them to have guns in them in Texas.

Every state is the same. This just so happens to be showcasing incidents Texas. Thieves steal guns daily across the whole US, not just Texas.

as a property owner i don't want those that travel on me to have any firearm! plenty of people over the years poach and kill animals illegally and have found bullet holes in objects that shouldn't have any!
Agreed. Should have made that clearer. I was referring to businesses (coffee shops, grocery stores, barber shops, etc.) where most owners support 2A, yet there’s always that 5% or so that don’t because of their political views.

Never meant to imply a non public business homeowner/landowner (I am one myself) shouldn’t have control or ever be subject to property loss.

I have said it before, I'll say it again, and I will die on this hill.

Property owner's "right's" shouldn't extend to a business open to the general public. And they can't be selective on what rights they allow customers to use.

Walmart can't ban someone from entering just becuase of their religion. Same should apply that shy shouldn't be able to deny someone becuase they are carrying a gun. One right is not more important than the other

it'll always be worse in the left controlled areas! dallas, houston, austin and sa iirc are dem strongholds (i'm not 100% sure about sa tho).
SA is blue. When we first moved there it was pink, then purple and now blue. In fact, the big cities you mentioned is why Texas is not really red. I'd say purple. When it comes to gun rights the state has a cultural history of being pro-gun, but not legally. That didn't happen until the late 90s when the concealed carry law was passed, and even then democrats were trying to politically restrict carrying at every turn.

(y) On the other hand it is my business and if I want to limit my customer base to left-handed, one eyed, bald, men of French Canadian decent, then I should have the right to be stupid. I'm really on the fence about this and can see both sides.
Now to cast aspersions/judge a book by its cover, "Alexander Testa, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Management, Policy, and Community Health at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health," Ya I'll bet that's a non-bias individual, that is above cherry-picking data and massaging the outcome. With a title like that I wouldn't him(?)her to give me the correct time of day.

I can't remember where I read it and I wish I had saved the link but didn't. There was a news story a few days ago about how in Texas thieves were targeting vehicles with TX DV (Disabled Veteran) plates. The thieves were picking these vehicles because a high number of disabled veterans in TX carry firearms. They were targeting places where firearms were prohibited, thinking the veterans would leave their firearms in the vehicle. Places like hospitals, doctor's offices, federal or state buildings, and even VA parking lots. Since I EDC a J-Frame, it's pretty easy for me to conceal. Now this is just me, you do what you want. I will mostly ignore signage about firearms not allowed in stores or businesses. If I know I have to go someplace I'm not allowed to carry and know I could get caught carrying, like a federal courthouse or military base, then I leave my pistol at home. I don't make any stops on the way there or on the way home. I have TX DV plates on my truck, so since I read that article, I will make double sure I don't leave my pistol behind in my truck.

People who leave their guns unlocked/unsecured in their vehicles that are stolen out of said vehicle should be charged with some form of negligence. Vehicle safes for guns are not expensive or unobtainable. I have two, one for each vehicle that I use if needed. I also have alarms on my vehicles. The safes are stored under a seat or on the floor covered up with something.

If a business chooses to ban weapons on their premises, that is their Right. They also have a responsibility to ensure my safety while on their property. I, as a customer, have the Right to hold them financially and legally responsible if they fail to ensure my safety from harm while on their property. Slips, trips, falls, shootings, stabbings, etc are their responsibility. Their premises should be clear of any hazards, per OSHA, to protect me from a hazard. And, they should have, at the very least, a metal detector with security personnel at all entrances and exits to enforce their weapons ban. Failure to comply with that safeguard to ensure the safety of their customers leaves them responsible for the legal and financial consequences of their failure. This is why we have TSA screenings at airports. Same should hold true for any hospital, business and government building/agency that fails in their responsibility to keep us safe while on their premises. They should be held accountable for their failure to ensure everybody's safety while on their premises. If a company can be sued and forced to change their procedures for someone burning themselves with a cup of hot coffee provided by said business, then they can also be held to the same standard.

Their failure to implement proper safety and security protocols, and to be consistent with those protocols, leaves them open to the consequences of their negligence and failure. That is how this needs to be handled. It is your Right to make these decisions. It is not your Right to shirk your responsibility for your decisions, and it is OUR Right to hold you responsible for your decision, should our Rights and safety be infringed in any way.

I have no problem with a business, agency or hospital that bans weapons. This means that they are taking responsibility for my/our safety while on their premises. Either I will abide by their rule/regulation, or I will go elsewhere. However, if I or my loved ones are harmed or injured due to their lack of competence in ensuring that safety, they will and should be held accountable. With our Rights come Responsibility. Nobody should be free from those Responsibilities. Period.

GOOD MORNING ALL
i live in texas and have had my LTC forever and one day
i carry 99% of the time
my vehicle is 99% carrying one of my hole punches
100% i never ever leave one in the vehicle, un-secured , glove box is not a secure spot.

i would never want my items to be used to kill others if they were stolen from my vehicle....

now the large items....NEVER EVER are left in vehicle alone in vehicle even at the range..unless they are also locked up
, we have had folks walk off with things before by "MISTAKE"

for me, the responsibility of doing things to prevent theft is incumbent on owning one

HOWEVER my recent trip to florence KY and back...was a challenge, but again the hole punch was on me or in my wifes charge 100%
pretty sure no one at any hotel, eatery, fuel stop etc had any idea i was carrying. thats the cool part about concealed

Laws are different. In Texas if there is a properly worded sign prohibiting firearms and you carry anyway, it is a crime. But in Florida a sign prohibiting firearms has no force of law on its own. In Florida if a property owner or manager knows you are armed they can tell you to get out and if you refuse you are trespassing. But if you conceal your firearm properly they never know. There are certain places where firearms are prohibited by law in Florida just like most states, but you have to know the laws where you are.
