My Jeep versus rodents

car makers have been changing the mix in the insulation to add a taste bad or deterrent

on my truck he or it or they ate air and vacuum tubes and heavy gauge 12v main feeds, but not the little stuff? and the wire parts they chewed on was the outer black chafe wrap, pvc covers, tape and nylon wire ties, then into the actual insulation... they should have sprayed or wiped down everything the under hood with the

Capsaicin Patches,4.72"x7.08" Hot Capsicum Patch (50)

rabbits will also stand up and take a bite under the vehicle

Just looked at the final estimate on how much it would have cost for everything to get it fixed. Over $14,000! The Kelly Blue Book value is in that Ballpark value.

here's the thing i recall from my wrenching days, so of course long ago, things may have changed...

say that you just bought that jeep brand new...@ a cost of say $14,000

and no more than say 5 months later, there was a bad wreck, or the rodents did this....

and the cost of repairs was $14,000

the insurance back then, would pay for the repairs, since it was less than 6 months old.

nowadays, with costs being so much for parts, and labor..??

its cheaper to total it

oh, if you wanted to, you could buy back your jeep, maybe for even less that the insurance paid in totaling it...

but unless YOU turned wrenches, and can buy the wiring harnesses at YOUR mechanics pricing, and YOU had the time, then YOU could make the repairs.

the insurance companies go by the repair shops flat rate labor charges, and parts catalogs of USED parts, unless the repairs are done at a BRANDED car dealership...like Jeep..........and independant repair garage....?? the insurance WILL DEMAND USED parts, or "good-bye"......

in todays world, the insurance company totals the vehicles, then recoups thier money in salvage

and the salvage company makes maybe upwards to 5 to maybe 10 times thier money back, when a body shop or engine shop calls for those used parts.

all you had was chewed up wires....otherwise that Jeep is PRISTINE in parts.......

you lose......but others win.....

Yeah. Some others will benefit from my Jeep. It won’t be me☹️ The Renegade has been discontinued. I’m looking at the Compass model now. Remember that “Trunk Monkey”?. I’m looking for a “Car Cat” 😁

Is this a vehicle you like and would like to get back? Was the estimate from the insurance company? Because the place your Jeep is at may have a no-insurance company estimate to give you. Or get the Jeep to a different mechanic/body shop. As @Old_Me was typing about insurance companies try to make money how they can.

I worked for auto parts stores for 20+ years. And i heard/seen estimate differences from mechanics in body shops and the like. They were 1/2-3/4 of the insurance estimates. Most mechanics/body shop will tell customers the difference because they only get a few bucks for looking at the vehicle and they want to get more money... lol...

My Jeep was picked up yesterday by COPART. The next step is they’ll send me the appropriate paperwork to fill out and sign. Then I send it back along with the title. Once that’s done I’ll get payment sent electronically to my account.
It’s my least favorite game to play. The “Wait and See” game🤬

My 2002 Ford Ranger sat for 2 months last summer waiting for a part that had been eaten by rodents. My pardner's 1991 Ford F350 Dually's wiring harness was also chewed up and cost $850 to repair. Some say automakers use more plant-based biodegradable materials to reduce waste. Several class-action lawsuits have been filed against major automakers in recent years alleging that soy-based products were to blame, but these court cases were later dismissed.

It’s interesting to me that Honda sells a Capacium tape to wrap wires in BUT they don’t install it at the factory. If you KNOW it’s a problem, why not treat it when you build the dang vehicles? Yet another wonderful planet saving idea from the morons in charge ( similar to those wonderful new fume proof gas cans😳). Why do folks want to fix a problem that doesn’t exist?

$$$$...and.... ¢¢¢¢....is why they do not do it on the assembly line..

was a time when certain options ordered a vehicle had to be removed from the assembly line, and taken to another area of the factory for special orders...if i recall to this day, the class 8 truck makers do this.

its either all or none to be cost effective.

in other words, years ago..?? a/c was an option, as was power steering...now all cars/trucks/suv's have that all as standard equipment......so "its all the same" on the assembly line, no time wasted.

i can "see" where not much changed with the Compass..

Reliability Concerns:
Some sources, like Consumer Reports, have expressed concerns about the Compass's reliability compared to other compact SUVs

i personally knew truckers at places i worked at, bought them, and traded them in rather quickly

people like (or love) Jeeps, but they are not "your fathers Jeep" anymore....

i like this guy, he's been a wrencher a dang long time, and is honest about his reviews

Yep. It was my first. I Jeep I drove in the Army had much more power than the Renegade.
