On Feb. 26 my mentor, my second father figure, and my friend passed away in 2000. He wanted me to do so many things and I do believe I did disappoint him but he never held that against me. His name was Captain George Street. He was also one of my school teachers and my neighbor. The thing was he was a hero, a WW2 submariner who earned the Medal of Honor. He wanted me to follow in his footsteps but I, being stupid, had a mind of my own. I should have listened to him. He did honor me by speaking at my retirement ceremony from the Air Force. He always kept telling me I should have been in the Navy. I was honored to be a part of his life and I still think of him everyday. Rest in peace skipper.

Sorry to hear it. Good mentors are hard to come by. For him to mentor you says a lot about you, and it's all good.
 
Sounds like a great man, sorry for your loss. Most of the time we are our own worst critics. Continue to live a righteous life and be the best "You". Recognition of our "goodness " too often lies untold until long after our passing. Beware, recognition of our shortcomings is the first thing people speak of.
