The National Rifle Association has teamed up with local allies to sue Massachusetts over its sweeping ban on semiautomatic firearms, claiming it shreds the Second Amendment and leaves law-abiding citizens in unconstitutional limbo.

The NRA has it coming. They haven't done squat in years other than waste or steal our money. WLP may be gone, but his cronies are still taking advantage.
I genuinely do wish they'd get back in the fight. But, I'm not counting on it. 🤬

There's no doubt that the NRA has done great things for us in the past. They used to be "THE" gun rights organization.
But under WLP they became a greedy, self serving, fear monger that did nothing but beg for money. As I said, WLP may finally be gone, but the corrupt BOD he created is still going strong.
Look at the pistol brace rule. NRA sat on their butts and did nothing until it became clear that it was going to be overturned. Then they jumped into the law suits at the last minute and screamed "Look what we did!" when it was defeated. Other 2A organizations, particularly GOA, did all the actual work.
I want the old NRA back. 🤬

Yeah, that’s BS. The BOD is elected by the members and there have been significant changes. Most of the people who were supported by WLP’s detractors in the last election won. All new leadership too.

And frankly you don’t have a clue what the NRA has or hasn’t done with regards to lawsuits, funding or the brace rule.

What makes you think the GOA did all the work ? The GOA tell you that. People complain about the NRA begging for money, Jesus Christ, the GOA still sendS me at least 3 emails a week begging for money.

Even crippled by WLP and his bullshite, the GOA doesn’t have anywhere near the political clout the NRA has.

I understood people leaving and complaining two years ago. Now you’re just shooting yourselves in the feet.

Cursory google search. 🙄

The National Rifle Association (NRA) filed lawsuits against the ATF's pistol brace rule to prevent it from reclassifying braced pistols as short-barreled rifles (SBRs), which would subject gun owners to severe penalties and registration requirements. The NRA was successful in two major instances: a federal court in Texas issued a preliminary injunction, and later, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the rule arbitrary and capricious, halting its enforcement against NRA members and in states within the Eighth Circuit.

What was the Pistol Brace Rule?
  • The rule, issued by the ATF in January 2023, aimed to regulate firearms equipped with stabilizing braces as short-barreled rifles (SBRs).

  • This reclassification would have forced owners to register their firearms, pay a $200 tax, or face potentially up to 10 years in prison and fines of $10,000.
Why the NRA Sued
  • The NRA argued the rule was unconstitutional, arbitrary, and capricious, exceeding the ATF's statutory authority.

  • They contended that the rule would penalize law-abiding gun owners, including disabled veterans and other individuals who rely on braces for stability when firing.
Key Legal Victories for the NRA
  • NRA v. Garland:
In March 2024, a federal judge in Texas granted a preliminary injunction, preventing the ATF from enforcing the rule against NRA members in that case.

  • Firearms Regulatory Accountability Coalition, Inc. v. Garland:
In August 2024, the NRA-supported Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court decision and enjoined the rule's enforcement within the Eighth Circuit, finding the rule to be arbitrary and capricious.
Current Status
  • As of July 2025, the government dismissed its appeal of the District Court's decision, effectively ending the challenge to the pistol brace ban in the context of the Eighth Circuit lawsuit.

  • The NRA's efforts have resulted in injunctive relief for its members and in other cases, halting the enforcement of the ATF's rule against them.

Yes, WLP was the reason I stopped being a member years ago. Way too many other really good organizations that are truly in the debate to fight, protect our rights, and win.

The GOA was formed in 1976 specifically to counter the NRA since Richardson obviously had a problem with them. The GOA claims 2 million members. GOA members have no vote or voice about their leadership. GOA members receive a hat or something. That's about it.

The NRA was formed in 1871 for the purpose of increasing marksmanship and competency. In the wake of Wayne LaPierre membership declined from 5.5 million to it's current 4.3 million. NRA leaders are directly elected by NRA life members. NRA members receive discounted prices on a lot of different services including hotels, insurance, identity theft, loans, vacations and discounts on vehicle purchases.

The NRA political lobby is a behemoth. And regardless of what Grayfox and other like minded individuals tell you, there is no one more active legislatively and no one with the lobbying power to influence legislation more effectively. And frankly my biggest issue with the GOA is the fact that they spend most of their time, past and present, in an effort to cripple the NRA. Instead of partnering with them to advance their stated mission, they spend your money on marketing ads and propaganda designed to advance their market share.

These are things I believe. I really don't care what anyone else believes. I will say this. You don't hear NRA members going around talking shite about other gun rights organizations. Most of us, myself included, encourage support for ALL groups actively defending our 2A rights. Particularly at the state level. During the time immediately following WLP being exposed publicly, I, along with a great many other NRA members withheld money and support for the NRA in it's then current form. Many other people, spurred on by some of these alternative gun rights groups, busied themselves trying to hammer death nails into the NRA. And now that the NRA is reformed and continuing it's goal of returning to the stalwart organization it was, rather than supporting the world's largest civil rights organization in it's plight, here we have GOA advocates making claims about the NRA that they are seemingly pulling out of their asses in a continuing effort to dismantle it. Y'all can do whatever you want, but personally I'm going to continue to support the NRA and support other groups who's mission is to protect our 2A rights as opposed to spending my membership dues on trying to take out other gun rights organizations.

well i have said it before, but i will repeat it again..

i got started in the gun sport, hobby in January of 2020.......

before that, YES, i have heard of the NRA, but not any of the others....which i now belong to:

1) NRA
2) GOA
3) GSSF
4) SAF
5) CCRKBA

as such, i had NO idea on the actual mission of the NRA, (or the others)....in fact i think i could have cared less.

But, i am in a situation where i MUST be a member of the NRA to be a member of my gun club....reason being....?? they got money from the NRA to put up a new building, and part of the agreement was ALL members must join the NRA...the loan was paid off decades ago, but my club keeps the NRA membership active...so do a few other clubs here.

would i be a member of ANY of those above organization if it wasn't warranted..??

most likely a resounding NO....Being on Social Insecurity and a small pension, that shite gets expensive

but i live in a 2A unfriendly state...and NO, we cannot move, don't even mention that BS......

so, i belong to those organizations, for what help no matter how little it is, to combat the anti 2A fools.

It seems obvious by the comments that many of you have not kept up with the activity of the new executive vice-president, Doug Hamlin, and his efforts to develop what he is calling NRA 2.0. I have and I have been impressed.

I get it, Wayne LaPierre did bad, but he's been run off and there is a new guy in town who is turning things around. He's helped make changes to the board. He has implemented 3rd party financial auditing. He is refocusing the priorities of the organization.

So if you are whining about being butt hurt by what happened in the past you can just keep on wallowing in it if you want. I'd rather encourage and be a part of the change and I think Doug Hamlin is the man to make it happen.

I am still a member of the NRA and have been for somewhere around 40 years. I haven't completely given up on them. I'm just unhappy with the current state of the organization.
As I said, I want the old NRA back. I'm glad they are making changes and I hope things will improve. But the damage and corruption run deep. It'll take time.
