Hello from MN,

I have been looking in here for a while and finally got registered the other day so thought I should say ‘hello’.
There’s so much interesting information here. Pretty much every aspect of shooting is covered.

I’m a retired dairy farmer from central MN. Sold the cows seven years ago after 40+ years of 24/7/365 dedication to them. Been interested in guns and all types of shooting for as long as I can remember. I’ve built several flintlock rifles during the long MN winters. I’ve taken many deer here with my flintlocks

Single shot rifles, lever action rifles, and single action revolvers, all of 1870’s style are a big part of my shooting activities. Casting bullets and reloading ammo for them is an enjoyable pastime and necessary for my Sharps rifle chambered in the obsolete .40-70 SS cartridge.

Three years ago I acquired a nice Springfield 1911 45ACP. I can’t claim to be a good pistol shooter but I’m slowly improving. Reloading for the 45ACP has been fun and rewarding.

So, I’m glad to be here even though I might not post a lot. I’ll for sure be visiting often to see what’s new.

Welcome from a fellow Minnesotan (west central)! You came to the right place, sir. We don't take ourselves too seriously here, but when we do...well, the thread may go off the rails a little 😇. There's lots of collective knowledge here (watch out for the "enablers". You all know who you are 😉). There's a nice mix of seriousness and frivolity here. Pull up a chair and enjoy. Hope you stay around! 😊😎

Freedom: It’s on the chopping block in MN too. I’ve lived here for most of my 72 years and it’s changing for the worst rapidly. I live 100+ miles northwest of the Twin Cities and the daily chaos there but even here in the boonies the foul wind of change appears at times. Our farm has been in the family for 120 years, I can step out the back door and shoot targets anytime without anyone complaining. As much as I like it here and appreciate what we have, we have given serious thought to leaving the state. Mpls/St.Paul/Rochester rule the elections and the common sense out state areas don’t get much say it seems.

On a brighter note, deer opener is tomorrow so I’ll have time to enjoy the great outdoors. My flintlock is ready, just need the right deer to come by.

Howdy!

Grew up In Crystal MN, we shot so many crows form the corn fields.

It seems we have a lot in common. I have way more SSAs than modern. Started with one 45/70, now have 4.

I use 230gr ball for dealing with varmints and 230gr cast RN for practice. Still making them for under 25 cents each.
