New Old Guy In The House

Howdy everyone. New guy from Nashville here and just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

I've been shooting forever it seems, at least 50 years, and while I've shot a lot of 1911 models I've never owned one myself. I recently rectified that oversight with a Springfield 1911 Ronin in .45ACP and am really enjoying it. I shot Beretta pistols for a number of years in USPSA and IDPA but they behave like different animals so I'm actually having fun "Retraining" myself on a new platform.

I also reload most of my ammo. I reloaded all of the .40 S&W I shot in USPSA and IDPA and load a lot of .223 for my AR-15 and a little bolt gun I play with. Nothing high-volume, just enough to keep me shooting.

I'm a retired engineering designer and got out of the working day life just in time for COVID to shut everything down in 2020. But that's OK, I volunteer as a Range Safety Officer at a state-owned range and since we don't get paid our one perk is that we have a code to the gate and can come shoot anytime we want at no charge.

So that's me in a nutshell. I'm going to go wander around this forum and see what there is to see and just enjoy myself. Thanks for having me and I look forward to meet new people and share information.
Welcome from N.E.FLA, always happy to see new folks with new input.

Hi,

Good to know you. I've had big gaps in my shooting hobby too. I shot clay pigeons with friends using a .410 when I was 10, had a little training with M16 when I was in boot camp during the late 70s, and other stuff off and on. Then, life. Since retirement I've been making up for lost time. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Are you sure we weren't brothers at some point in time?

Welcome from Oregon. As mentioned by Annihilator, there's a lot of knowledge here. I'll add the knowledge base here is well versed on a very wide variety of topics. It is pretty hard to come in here and try to BS about anything because I guarantee someone here chewed that dirt. Contribute to the conversations where you can and it'll be appreciated by the group. So kick off your boots, grab a beverage, take a seat, and have some FUN! By the way, you don't happen to own a Buick or a YEET Cannon, do you?

We have talked about this.

Thanks for the welcome. I have a close friend who lives in Portland and was out there in 2014. It is an absolutely beautiful place.

I've been a member of a lot of forums, all of them with members far more knowledgeable than me so I know when to sit back and listen and when to add my 2 cents worth ;)

Nope, sorry. Never owned a Buick or a High Point firearm.

Okay fellas, Are we gonna let Belt issue a "temporary" secret handshake to try this new guy out? Or should we just go ahead an give him the full initiation now? I mean, no Yeet or Buick? I was required to go to Belt's Buick / Hi-Point dealership to buy the combo deluxe package before you'd give me the secret handshake. Ha ha ha! 🤪
