Same in the Nam…most wanted the return of the M-14, but were stuck with the unreliable M-16 and M-60. Personally I managed to find an M-2 carbine and loved it. Worked every time, but I had to trade stuff with the Army to get ammo. My go-to firearm is still a M-1 carbine.

Agreed, my career Marine son was one of them, but They were not asking for more weight, they were asking for a more capable rifle. My whole point is the ground pounders carry a ton of gear. Why not lighten their loads where you can? Instead we keep making heavier rifles.

I think the new round is trying to address that. Lethality and reliability is what matters to those down range. 5.56 is great if using a shorty in cqb to a point though drugged up bad guys made even shorties come up lacking. Combat arms requires hard hitting weapons a nd they are more desirable for the most part. They don't care about the extra weight if it means saving their lives. You think a ww 2 infantry soldier on the line begged for an m1 carbine or a bar?

I really hope the military gets their act together on a more powerful round. The 5.56 leaves a fair bit to be desired. The average troop would like a 5 lb rifle that recoils like a .22 and hits like a .50 big, but until the laws of physics get repealed that’s not gonna happen😏
