NGD/Range Day - CZ Shadow 2 Carry

Lab4Us

Custom
Got the call from LGS yesterday and went and picked up my CZ S2 Carry. Broke it down and cleaned all the shipping gunk out of it this morning (wasn’t a whole lot). Weed eater and lawn mower to the lawn (supposed to storm tonight and tomorrow, so needed to get it done). Finally headed to the range about 1230, after quick clean up and lunch.

My overall impression of the Shadow 2 Carry is that it’s solid, with the exception of the photo luminescent sights. My indoor range is dim so I might have well been using black sights. Basic white dots would have been better 😂. Doesn’t matter, UPS dropped off my EPS-Carry about an hour ago, it will go on tomorrow.

Decocker worked great - though was it really stiff before I did initial cleaning and lubrication. Slide stop/take down lever was also really hard to get out first time. Much better after lubrication and range time.

Seems like it will make a nice carry gun, but won’t know until holster arrives. I shopped around to find one for the Carry model though many reviews say the Compact model holsters fit.

It was kind of a nice change from shooting J-frames and micro 9s…my thumb joint doesn’t even twinge! Next time around it will be zeroing the optic and then working with one hand and weak hand shooting.

Rounds used, in order. There were ZERO malfunctions of any kind and slide locked after every empty magazine. Also no issues with +1 magazine loading, though I only tried it a few times.

50 x Federated Ordnance 124g FMJ (NATO)
100 x Federal American Eagle 124g FMJ
12 x Federal HST 124g +P
65 x Federal HST 124g

Very first 15 rounds was a magazine dump at 7yds, keeping sights centered much as I could. Not sure what happened with that far left hit. Was happy sights are combat hold.

Moved it back to 3 yds. Top right and left were pretty simple, 5 rounds at a time, right - left - right - left. For ovals #4 and #5 I decided to try something different so I did one round left, one round right, etc. until magazine empty, fast as i could get front sight in the orange.

Enough close work. Moved this target out to 10 and did a pseudo 10/10/10 - I don’t have a timer. And apparently can’t count as there are 11 holes!

Sights completely covered the “A” square, so did what I could, some fast, some slow fire. Lots more mag dumps into center.

Last two targets were a varied distance/speed drill.

First one was a mix of 23 rounds of AE 124g FMJ (23), Fed HST 124g +P (12), and Fed HST 124g regular (15). I was shooting up some HST I’d been carrying in other guns quite a while.

Last one was 50 rounds of Fed HST 124g regular.

Both targets fired in this order.

3 yds - slow fire 5 rounds to left shoulder, 5 rounds to right shoulder
5 yds - 10 fast rounds center
7 yds - 10 fast rounds center
15 yds - slow fire 5 rounds center (where most missed came from)
3 yds - five strings of 2 rounds center, 1 round head, all fast fire

the carry model is on my list to buy and maybe the full size also? deliberating hard between the 220 in either flavors of it doesn't matter of the legion or non models along with the hk in 45acp...................i want to say "screw it and buy all" but short on funds for that amount. i'm probably needing $5-8k for buying 3-5 of those.

Quick update, got the EPS Carry installed. Decided to try a 6 MOA green this time. Optic fit very well. I used screws from Cajun Gun Works. Couple pictures below. BTW, those decocker levers are no joke! Hand slipped clearing gun before installation and left decocker lever took a chunk out of my left palm. Guess I need to wipe down a bit better after conditioning. Lots of sharp on this gun for a “carry” model!

My kitchen lights up those photo luminescent sights much better than range lighting. Anyway, another trip to range tomorrow to zero in optic. Will follow up accordingly.
