NGSW Rifle Redesignated As XM7

The Army originally chose the designation XM5 as the name of the new rifle in March 2022, but since then, the service learned that the M5 name is used by Colt Industries for one of its 5.56mm carbines.

As a result, the NGSW Rifle will now be called the XM/M7.

Hmm didn't figure a civilian model designation would effect a military model designation. The Colt M5 is a 5.56mm and the SIG is 6.8mm, two different carbines.
