Thankfully, no one was hurt in yet another RI bridge failure—but it raises a real question: is over $1B a year in taxpayer spending on RIDOT actually delivering results for Rhode Islanders?

fell onto the R/R tracks below, shutting down the R/R......

Infrastructure in this country is in really bad shape. Government is wasting money needed to repair that on all their free give away programs. 🤬
what has been said here, is the tolling plaza's will reopen in the coming months...

but

much of THAT money...??

did not even go towards the roads.....the reason FOR the tolling, in the first place...!!!!!

the states are getting "tolling" monies....for road repairs and such...

but someone cries a new bike path is needed

and monies get diverted.

same ole, same ole

For as long as I have been old enough to vote, every couple three years we pass a bond referendum for roads, bridges, trains, ports,.... After all this time one would think we would have the finest roads in the world not these potholes filled meandering cow paths.
Old_Me They just don't make em like they usta ;)

Come on now…we all know the States that add lots and lots (AND LOTS) of taxes ALWAYS use it to fix roadways, infrastructure, and improve the lives of the US populace. Oh wait, I think that must have been a fever dream…

Reality demonstrates that most of those tax dollars went to a LOT of other countries instead of the US for improvements until very, very recently…

Anyone remember the phrase “Shovel Ready”?

Do not get me started on Illinois. Our gas tax for roads had quadrupled in the last ten years, our city gas tax has done the same yet our roads are worse than ever! But hey, we have fabulous bike paths!
IDiOT is probably in far worse shape than a lot of people even know. I have a friend that went to IDOT right out of college as an engineer. Over the decades he worked his way up to the glass ceiling. Well, a couple of years ago he submitted whatever the paperwork is to retire. IDOT came back and told him he'd have to work a few more years to collect his pension because the pension fund simply does not have the money to pay the retirement that he has been contributing to throughout his entire career. Can you imagine being told the pension fund is broke?!! How the heck does something like that even happen?

We used to have really nice bike paths. But they've become tent cities. I don't feel safe riding on them even in daylight.
In my youth we called those sidewalks.
In all seriousness, the twin cities had serious dedicated bike paths built in the 60's and 70's. In the mid 90's they removed them all only to use tax dollars to build them all over again mid 20 teens. It's ridiculous honestly. Do we have a ton of new bicyclers? No. What we had was two mayors that owned bicycle shops.
Can you say conflict of interest!?🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

The State of New Mexico is no better. I don't know where are money goes. This year the hag in charge gave everybody free child care. I was figuring how we were paying for that, well got my answer this week. Starting 1 July car registrations will be going up 25%! What a joke. Thank god she is done at the end of the year. Why do these people vote for this crap. Is it now our problem to pay for someone's child care. I didn't tell them to have kids they couldn't afford! Ridiculous.

OK roads are terrible and most TX roads are decent...............i don't know who did the roads in flower mound (dfw area), but they look new and are so rough...........i think my pastures are more smooth and you need to wear a seatbelt for those. TX is still upgrading their electrical infrastructure with a crap ton of money................some states do something correct, but farm out roadways to out-of-staters that end up as toll ways 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 . at least in fw i can get somewhere w/o getting on a toll unlike dallas, austin and houston.

My dead horse...Until you stop voting for the same people over and over since term limits won't happen, don't expect change. Probably some of the multiterm officials of your party have syphoned money (meant for infrastructure) for their special projects. Independents are growing at a rapid rate due to lack of action and no clear definition of platform. The majority of TX toll roads are managed by some level of State Governance.
