Oldest Self Defense Gun You Would Still Carry?

Tangof1!

A couple of old LEO Friends were over and we were talking about our current carry guns. One guy said "I'm still carrying mine." He had a .38 S&W Chief Special, That started it off. I voted for my CZ82 9X18 MM. 12 twelve shots, and as accurate as the day I bought it. How about you?

That's an interesting question, @Tangof1! . I think (that means it is my OPINION, not necessarily gospel), that what I carry depends upon factors other than the age of the firearm. 1) It must be dead nuts reliable and at least as accurate as I am (which is not an extremely high bar), 2) If an auto pistol, I gotta be able to get extra magazines for it because I consider them a disposable wear item and I wanna get in some practice with whatever I'm going to carry, 3) Ammo must be available and affordable (for the aforesaid practice reason) and 4) Does its caliber start with a "4" ? (Just kidding on this one but I do like my fotays, four-tee-fours, an' four-tee-fahvs. But I have been known to compromise and carry less than an 4x caliber ;-) )

Put another way, I'd not hesitate to carry a WWI vintage 1911 in good condition if not for the fact that I'd feel like I was strutting around some inner city slum sporting a high-end Rolex.

Hmmm? I dont carry it a lot but Ive got a P38 and my smith is currently cussing me because I saked him to turn a P1 into a P38k-esque which Ill carry when he gets it done.

When I was in the army I was issued an early 1911 that had been "upgraded" to 1911A1 status

If youre talking OLD style but new made, I tried carrying a LeMat one day....but only one day
