Maybe not officially, but walk into any ER and you'll find the place full of illegals. Most states have laws forbidding ERs from turning away anybody. If you come in, they have to treat you. Many illegals treat the ER like its their local general practitioner. They go there for all types of minor non-emergency care. Everything from a common cold to a scraped knee. Thus making longer wait times for those in real need.
BTW: they can't pay either. So who pays for this? Taxpayers that's who. 🤬
This. I worked in healthcare for 46 years. You show up at a hospital Fed law REQUIRES you to be treated-insurance or not, citizen or not. Does NOT matter. FWIW, the hospitals do NOT get reimbursement for this. I was working a hospital in the Bronx a few years ago. The safety manager there was telling me that ten hospitals within 5 miles had, literally, closed in the previous two years. Lots showing up who were “non pay”. At the time 40% of those coming to His facility were “non pay”.
