Open Carry?

Yikes!

As a general rule, I don't like people I don't know, so I'm a BIG FAN of pickup or delivery and drive-thru for prescriptions.
Your experience reinforces this for me. Can't imagine Mamacita could demonstrate competence with her LCP if the proverbial stuff hit the fan. She might shoot me.
This was either right before Corona or the very very beginning. I don't think I don't think delivery was an option at the time. And we were going to get new phones so we kind of had to be there for that.

Understandable.

Some things you just can't avoid, like the bank or post office. Have to go in to conduct business. But Wal Mart ..... if I can avoid going in, I will avoid going in.

When I first got my concealed handgun permit I knew absolutely nothing about carrying a handgun and 20 years later I don't think I know much more now.

And I remember asking people "How do you know if you should or shouldn't carry a gun in a given situation?" I remember asking "How do you decide what days you carry and what days you don't?"

I don't remember who told me but the general consensus that I got is I should just carry every day.

I've seen videos of Masaad Ayoob in which he says if you're ever involved in the defensive gun use one of the first questions the police are going to ask you is "Why were you carrying a gun on that day?"

He said the best answer you can give is to say "I carry a gun everyday and today was no different."

So that's what I do.

I've mentioned this before but the first and last time that I ever went into the Hooterville post office there was a guy in the lobby standing in line who was open carrying and no one there seemed to care. Not something I would ever try but apparently dude was getting away with it.

We don't go to town unless we have to. If we're going to town anyway I make a list of things to pick up at Walmart. I don't think I've actually been in a Walmart or in town and almost a month

We have Open Carry here. I see someone doing it from time to time.

I used to do it years ago on the family farm where nobody was around but my own family.
I don’t think I would even do that now. Besides other reasons against it, I believe if one is going to carry a gun, they should always carry it the same way. Or as near as possible.
The only exception for me would be if and when a “BBQ Gun” is acceptable.

When the subject comes up, I try to avoid getting into an argument or saying the opposing side is wrong. Nobody’s mind is going to be changed.

But…

I see the ability to carry concealed as an advantage and just don’t see why I would want to give that up.

Some say the sight of armed citizens makes bad people think twice, but I think it’s more effective to keep them guessing. I want them to enter a place and have to wonder if anyone in there is armed and if so, how many?

And please, for the love of God, if you’re going to Open Carry, carry something nice for us to look at. Let us see some nice bluing and tooled leather, not polymer and nylon.
If I were to hazard a guess, the people doing the latter make up more than 95% of OC’ers.

for me it really depends on the situation, I’m fine with open carry in more rural settings like hiking or being out on private land, it just makes sense there and doesn’t draw attention, but in town I’d rather keep it concealed since it avoids unnecessary reactions and keeps things low key, I don’t feel the need to make a statement with it, I’m more about practicality than visibility
